What do you think? I have his father, Christian as b:1805, d:Mar 7, 1866. I don't swear by these dates, though. Many of my ancestors and relations are buried at the Abbott's Creek Primitive Bap Ch Cemetery. Although it is not up to date, I'm sure that you are aware that Vol IV, Cemetery Records of Davidson County, compiled by the Davidson Co Genealogical Society, includes this cemetery as well as many of the older cemeteries of Northern Davidson County.

Frank's siblings are David(01/03/1829), Elizabeth(01/22/1831), Polly(09/14/1833), Alfred(03/05/1835), Infant son(1839), Frank(06/20/1844), Susanna(06/19/1848) and Christian Augustus(10/22/1850). I think there was one more daughter in between Infant son and Frank, but can't prove this yet. In all of my records, Frank is never referred to as "John", but John was his great-grandfather's name !! Christian Shoaf, Jr was born abt.1800 and died September 11,1859. Polly Hege was born April 13,1808 and died July 19,1856. They were married in 1828. They lived between Lexington and "Salem" where they operated an inn for travelers. They are both buried at Old Vernon Cemetery. Best Of Luck, Carol

Capt. T. B. Beall, Salisbury, N. C., writes: It is my sad duty to note the death of one of our braves, the bravest of the brave, Robert Humphreys, of Lexington, N. C. I knew him well. He was one of the first to respond to his country's call, when the mightiest army of the world was marshaling against the Southern States. He went in a mere boy and came out a broken down man. He was in the defense of Yorktown, and that terrible retreat to Richmond, fought the battles in defense of that city, and afterward followed Gens. Lee and Jackson through their wonderful campaigns. He was shot by the enemy twenty or more times, which shows that he was always in the thickest of the fight. When his cause went down he accepted the situation and, like the true and brave man that he was, went earnestly to work to repair his fallen fortune, and prove himself in time of peace a successful and useful man. Mr. Humphreys was a member of Company I, Fourteenth North Carolina Troops, of which the writer was Captain. Front Royal and Riverton, Va., Gazette: It might well be called a " History of a Nation that Fell." It is the only publication that strives to give authentic record of the events of the late war between the States. It cannot but meet the hearty indorsement of every true friend of the Confederacy, and as it deals in things as they happened, it will find the sincere approval of those who wore the blue. We love our our memories, we cherish our institutions, and our dead are sacred. Then rally to the help of the enterprise that is to be the custodian of our glorious past.

    3. WARNING: Let this get your attention. Early 1700 & 1800s, Old Pa. wagon roads due south cris-crossed through the state of VA. from upper New England carrying thousands of migrants. Great road split about present day Roanoke. One road continued down into TN. toward GA. and other road due south into Rowan County, NC. toward SC. The road from Roanoke to Rowan County was the most heavily traveled road in the country. It was both a southerly route and a westward route from eastern NC moving west. Posted on: Davidson County, NCGenWeb Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Davidson/1788 Surname: Coats, Nunnally, Simerson ------------------------- Responding to your recent posting on the Davidson County page: I really do not know anything at all about the Coats mentioned. This was an old bible I found and the name of Nunnally predominated. My interest was that my great grandfather William Henry Simerson married Frannie Nunnally and I wondered if the other Nunnallys mentioned in the bible were a family related to the Nunnally that married into the Simersons. The name of Coats was mentioned in my posting simply because one of the entries in the bible was that Elisha Nunnally married Betsy(?) Coats on August 5(?), 1804. So I know nothing of her. Looks like you may wish to delve into the Nunnally family, too. Sorry I could not be of help. Sincerely, Bert Simerson
