Enoch Poyner was the son of the Reverend Nathan Poyner. Enoch and Laura may have had a son named Nathan. Enoch later remarried to Francis "Fannie" Pitts in 1875. Dear Mr. Seibel, Over the years, two volumes have been published on the families of Currituck County. The first volume, "The Heritage of Currituck County, 1670 - 1985", copyright 1985 has a lot of information on the branch of the Poyner family you are interested in. It is contained in article #521 on pages 357 thru 359. In a later collection titled "Histories of Currituck County North Carolina Families" copyright 2005,there is good information on the Woodhouses I believe you're looking for. It's in article 129, Origins of the Woodhouse Family of Currituck County, pages 306 thru 316. The information you have on Enoch Poyner appears accurate. My family has a connection with him though not through blood-lines. Enoch Dailey Poyner married his first wife, Laura Woodhouse 1868. She died in 1872, and they had a son named Nathan in 1869. Enoch's second wife was Sarah Frances Pitts, dsughter of Dr. Virginius Pitts, "physician, educator, and Superintendent of Currituck County Schools". Sara! h Frances was widely known as Miss Fannie Poyner. While she and Enoch were married, they adopted a girl, Paulina Woodhouse. Paulina was my paternal grandmother. My paternal Grandfather, Isaac Holly Merrell, and grandmother, Paulina Woodhouse Merrell, lived with "Grandma Poyner" and farmed the property at the old Poyner estate in Grandy for a number of years. My father, Roy Edward Merrell (one of 10 children), was born in 1915 in the house that was built in the late 18th century. My Grandfather purchased another piece of property in Bertha (now a part of Poplar Branch), and the family moved to the house and property around 1920. Grandma Poyner was the only grandparent my father ever knew. They took care of her until her death in 1927. I hope this has been of some help to you, but the details are in the two books I mentioned with the exception of the adoption of my Grandma Merrell (Paulina Woodhouse), and the history behind her family. Some of the Merrell history is in another section of "The Heritage of Currituck County". These volumes should be in the Currituck County Library. These two books do not constitute any type of proof. Yes, they are copyrighted and published. They are books compiled by researchers like myself who have written family history. I included sources in my articles but a lot of people didn't. I have seen numerous errors in the books. The articles have to be taken with a grain of salt unless their sources are noted.
