I went to Coldsprings Presbyterian Cemetary today and copied down some information from the stones in your grandfathers plot. You may already have this. The headstones are pinkish colored and they are fairly plain. There are 6 graves two are empty. From left to right. #1 a flat headstone in the ground all it says is "Richard John age 2 days" next is your grandfather "Beloved Husband Roland L. Mathias 1911-1966", #3 "Beloved Wife Edith H. Mathias 1911-1972", #4 empty, #5 enpty, #6 "Mother Freda Saner 1881-1964". This plot is right off one of the roadways in the cemetary and about 30 feet away and behind this plot is a six grave plot my mother had bought. Lucian F. Mathias, Lillian V, Davis, nee Mathias and my father and mother are buried there, there are two empty plots. About 200 feet to the right or west is another six grave plot which was bought by my aunt. It contains aunt Zeta (Mathias) Lowry, ! her husband Allen Norvall Lowry, Aunt Elsie (Mathias) Whilhelmsen, Uncle Polly Mathias This is Wallace he went by Polly all his life. The plot right next to where my parents are buried is owned by the Smeltzers. Grady had three children. Gladys married Harold Smeltzer, he died in 2005, Shirley, and Jimmy. Jimmy's given name is James Henry Mathias. So the family is pretty close together at least the dead ones are. Dawn I have a will for Olive Mathias. This is our Olive with son B.F. if you would like a copy of it I can make one for you. I know I was thrilled the first time I saw it. It is very interesting. Our Olive was Olive Morse, daughter of John Morse, and Linner (Eleanor) Bell, She married John A. Mathias and is seen on several census as living with her son Benjamin F.Mathias. My guess is Benjamins middle name was Forrest, no proof just a hunch primarily because Henry Jame's father was Benjamin F. and Henry's first born was Lucian Forrest. Henry's mother was Frances Virginia Doxey Mathias and his first born girl or second born child was Lillian Virginia. Maybe it is something else but I would put my money on Forrest. I have a lot of documents, wills, death certificates, birth certificates, deeds, and other things which I can copy for you. They are in the original handwritting and sometimes hard to read. I have a bunch of pictures, I can make you copies. I have one! of Henry James in his Life Saving Uniform, this is what they called the Coast Guard before it was called the Coast Guard. I have one on a porch in Wildwood NJ with him holding uncle Joe Davis. This was my mothers brother but she wasn't born yet. My grandmother and grandfather Davis are also in the picture. I have several of Nettie Marie a few where she was walking around, and one where she was holding the family pet (a goat), and a few after she had a stroke, she was in a wheelchair. I have a newspaper clipping of Lee Mathias when he was 2 years old and participated in a baby parade in Cape May. He was a cutie. Also, when I croak if your still around I would like you to have Netties wristwatch. It dosen't work anymore but it is platinum. The band says it is a Peggy Lee pat 10/19/26. That's 1926. My mother had told me that all of the kids, (Mathises) put together and gave it to her for her birthday and she was so overwhelmed she cried. Anyway Nettie was your grea! t-grandmother too, I think you should have it. How are things in Alabama. I moved down there for about 6 weeks. Closed up my house and moved down to Greenville which is the home of Forrest Gump and about 40 miles from Montgomery. I got a job in Baptist Hospital which was in Montgomery. Anyway, it was so hot, they had a small drout, all people ever talked about was the last time it rained and what it was going to do to the crops. Nothing but red dirt and clay. I had just bought a brand new 2003 Mitsubishi Spyder convertable cream colored. It was full of red dust and red dirt on the carpet, what a mess. Anyway Alabama was not my cup of tea, so I packed up and went home. I really missed not haveing the ocean nearby and not hearing the seagulls. Even though I am about 3 miles from the ocean and a mile from the Delaware bay the seagulls still fly over the house occassionally. I guess when you hear them all the time you get used to them subconsciously but when you don't hear them anymore you really miss them. I! have never been to Birmingham though maybe it's a lot different. Well I'll sort through pictures and stuff over the next few days and start to get things copied. Talk to you later.
