I have been following this set of emails.... My Etheridge line comes from Currituck.... You indicated there were many intermixing with Native American families.. How do we go about searching for that? I am new to this. Thanks for your help. It is possible that our Currituck families have a greater risk because a lot of the Outer Banks families were intermixed with Native American. Native Americans in general are at higher risk for diabetes. My grandfather, family from Currituck) had onset diabetes. I myself have peripheral neuropathy with no known reason. I do not have diabetes but I'm at high risk for it as I get older. My mother was from lower Currituck (immediate families Sawyer, Parker). They all had diabetes later in life. I'm 62 and don't have it yet. I don't know what the common cause was. Inbreeding??? May be.
