And aif you ever find out what drew so many from Currituck to Rowan please please let me know at pungo@cox.net I do know that in 1846 there were two HUGE hurricanes that hit Currituck--so big that salt water fish were in Currituck Sound and when the water receeded the farm land was covered in salt. Between the two hurricanes, just about everything was destroyed. Then I just read that Currituck was infested with maliria and typhoid.
