Good evening, I am researching Isaac Beasley abt 1751-1755 in Currituck Co., NC. After that, he is in Rowan Co., in the section that became Randolph Co. I was in Asheville at the Randolph Co. library one day and the librarian said that malaria and typhoid fever were very bad on the coast and many citizens moved inland to escape these diseases. Anyone else researching this Beasley? Thanks! Dusti --
I assume you have viewed the Northern wills on the Currituck website? You are right, there are many people with the same first names. I grew up in Rowan County (which several hundred years ago was a HUGE landmass). I will be visiting there (Rowan) over Thanksgiving. If I may be of assistance while there (there is a large genealogy library there), please advise. My Mother's family is Currituck and Camden County, primarily, and later on, on her mother's side, Norfolk area. I have not found what the Currituck > Rowan County connection was, but if you discover it, I'd love to know. I know why my mother ended up there, but no one else. Are you in NC? -----Original Message----- From: nccurrit-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nccurrit-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Joseph Nothern Sent: Sunday, November 23, 2008 4:10 PM To: nccurrit@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NCCURRIT] Phillip and Charity Northern of Currituck, NC info request Thanks for your information. A good account of the Legend of Betsy Dowdy can be found in Volume 4 of the Pasquotank Historical Society Year Book. Like most legends, there is probably some factual basis to the account. As a Dowdy descendant, I like to believe it is true. Betsy was believed to be the daughter of Joseph Dowdy (O'Dowdd/O'Dowdee/O'Dowdy). Joseph lived on "the banks" opposite Knotts Island. I thought the story was about a ride to find a doctor to help someone near death....guess I'll have to find the book and re-read it. I'd also like to know what became of her... He died 25 Mar 1945 in Currituck Co., NC. He married Mamie B. Crank. I don't have their date or place of marriage but it was most likely in Pasquotank Co. where they met and before 1902 when their son Horace Harrell was born. I did not have any other children listed but will add Bessie M. as Taylor's sister. Jean Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I will check into it. I know that Dempsey was the pastor at the Northwest Baptist Church in Moyock from 1803-1813. The family sold the homestead in 1826 and I have worked the deeds for the ownership of the land up to the present but hit a brick wall when it was sold in 1835 to William Jones. Will start from there and work this bit of information and see what happens. Thanks again! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
