My grandfather grew up on Moyock. His name was Thomas Morecock Perkins (Sr.) but he was born John Thomas Perkins. His mother was Georgia Pippett. Thomas Morecock of Norfolk became his foster? father for a time and he was renamed. Morecock had some connection to the island, maybe just vacationing there to go fishing. I haven't been able to find out anything more than that. Anything you could tell me would be helpful. I have their children as: Joe b. ca. 1802 Mary "Polly" b. aft 1797 Ann Edmond and William Ferebee (as listed above). I wonder if the Thomas E. is Edmond? Thomas Baxter had died the year before, 1821. I have Lovey Bray's birth at around 1809 (in the 1860 Currituck census she was listed as 51), so doubtful she was the widow of Joseph, who died in 1822, but "Lovey" was a common name, of course. Do you have William Ferebee Baxter as the son of Thomas and Marie Grace Phillips Baxter? Thank you! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NCCURRIT] Where Have all the Indians Gone?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: MIDGETT Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.northcarolina.counties.currituck/1458/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My new academic paper was just published this week. It's titled "Where Have all the Indians Gone? Native American Eastern Seaboard Dispersal, Genealogy and DNA in Relation to Sir Walter Raleigh's Lost Colony of Roanoke." http://www.jogg.info/52/files/Estes1.pdf I was asked by the editor of the Journal of Genetic Genealogy to write this article and was honored to have it accepted and published. There may be other articles of interest to those interested in the more general aspects of genetic genealogy as well, in the current edition as well as earlier ones. You can find the earlier editions online and free at http://www.jogg.info/. For those of you who have not been involved with academic publications and who know me, you won't recognize this as my writing style. Basicly, it has to be "all business" and it took several months and several iterations of the paper to whittle it down from 87 pages to what is published. In my original, the supplemental materials were included in the original paper, and I feel they are incredibly important, so don't forget to look at those as well. While the paper's main focus is on the Lost Colony, a great deal of the information is relevant to the study of Native people east of the Mississippi, regardless of their tribal affiliation. Anyone interested in this topic will probably find this article of interest. Also, for those who do not subscribe to the Yahoo Discussion Group for our Lost Colony project, you can do so by simply e-mailing me and asking for an invitation. I'll gladly send you one. 1. [NCCURRIT] Marriage book lookup? William Green-Georgia Powers
    2. Mary Hurst
    3. Is there anyone who can/will do a lookup in Currituck¹s Marriage Book 1 (page 9) sometime for me? There is no urgency, but I¹d like to know the parentage of William E. Green if that¹s available. I don¹t need a copy of anything, just that one piece of info. William Green married Georgia A. Powers in 1911. I found them in the online index at Ancestry, but that only gives the date and location of the marriage info. I¹m hoping there is more information in the Marriage Book. If no one can do that, then I¹ll put it on my list of things to do the next time I get down that way. Thanks, Mary Hurst
