Is that farm/grave of Thos. Jones plot still accessible? I also recall there was a Morse cemetery just south of Moyock and some houses (long since gone.) The 1900 census lists Thos. B. Jones birth as Apr. 1862, but his age as 48. Your date of Jan. 1852 is consistent with his being 48 in 1900. Also Winnie W. (my grandmother) was born in July 1889 according to her gravestone and the census. Thanks again for sharing this. Cole Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. It cost just about as much to rent them from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as it did to buy them. I ordered them on-line from the NC Archives at about $6 per reel. The microfilming leaves a lot to be desired but it is certainly better than nothing. I am in the process of trying to buy a used microfilm reader so I don't have to go to the library and wait for a reader. 3. Hi Jean, I am always happy to share and/or compare. I do remember you but it has been sometime since we corresponded. About a year ago, I bought all the microfilm available for Currituck Co and found evidence that my ancestor Caleb T. Sawyer was not the child of Frederick as I had believed, based on the abstract of Jacob's will. I posted my new information on several Internet sources, since I wanted to correct this mistake. Caleb T. and his brothers Willoughby, Wilson and Simeon were the sons of Simeon Sawyer (son of Jacob & Sarah) who wrote his will July 12, 1814; the will was proved Aug. 30, 1814. Simeon's wife was Dorcas LNU. Please feel free to contact me directly. 2. Well, I rely on Ancestry.com everyday. As a matter of fact what I sent to you was from them, except for the Will. It might be on Ancestry but I didn't check for Wills. I am a serious genealogist and don't find that the price is too high. I would pay more trying to find the records that they have in other places. Julia In a message dated 1/30/2010 5:50:15 P.M. Have you any thoughts about the “ credibility” of Ancestory.Com? I see their ads run on TV and they lead you to believe that they can provide a great deal of background information. I am sure that it comes with an expensive price. Thank you again! 1. [NCCURRIT] More about Spence Gray
    2. The Will of Spencer Spry, d. 1862, who has a son named, Spence, leaves land that adjoins that of Spence Gray. There has to be a relationship there. My lineage is from Spencer D. Gray who was written about in David Stick's book, "Graveyard of The Atlantic". I have some information about Spencer but I am very interested in finding more about his father and beyond. Spencer drowned on March 5th, 1876 in a heroic rescue attempt. My great aunt changed our family name from "Gray to Grey" back in the early 1900's. If you have any information on the family of Spencer D. Gray....I would love to hear from you. I have checked in every way that I can to see how Thomas could be his uncle and the only way that I can figure is that he was the brother of Lemuel's mother. That would make her a Taylor. The daughter was named, Mary, so her mother may have been Mary Taylor. Of course, she could be been name after her grandmother if Elizabeth were not her grandmother, but John's second wife. 2. Hello Chuck, My Nancy Gray left Currituck by 1830 after marrying Daniel Burfoot Lindsey, so I don't have any Gray research after that time. I did, however do some searching for you. I find that his name was Spence, not Spencer. In 1850 he was living with William Ball and his wife, Charlotte. She was 20 years younger than William and I wonder if Charlotte was Spence's mother. Sorry I can't find more. Julia French Wood In a message dated 1/30/2010 12:35:33 P.M. Central Standard Time, Chuck.Grey@cardinalhealth.com writes: Hello, My name is Chuck Grey. 3. This is another "Jean" checking in. I recently joined this NCCURRIT because I will spend several days in that part of NC in March. March 28, 29,and 30. I recognize Jean Schroeder's name and email from some sharing we did several years ago on our Sawyer families. I've been reviewing those notes and recall that Frederick Sawyer is J. Schroeder's ancestor, while Mark Sawyer is J. Sundborg's ancestor. J. Schroeder, can we continue a separate conversation to that I have all info you have on Frederick's line? To the rest of the people on this list, I send my request for some suggestions about what village/city should I stay to have access to the most useful family history research places. Do you recommend Currituck County Courthouse? NEast NC Genealogy in Elizabeth City? Others? To any other Sawyer researchers, I'd welcome what info you have. My Mark, s/o Jesse Sawyer and wife, Margaret Gibson, was born in Currituck in 1813, but was in Marshall County, Illinois, to marry Susannah James in 1837. In 1843 they joined others from Illinois for the long trek west via the Oregon Trail. Mark had brothers Jacob b. 1811 in NC, Jordan born 1815 in Currituck, Enoch born 1817 in Currituck, and an unknown named sister born before 1819 who married an unk Forbes. This NCCURRIT is a useful and active group of researchers.
