    1. [NCCURRIT] Families of New Bern & Craven County Meeting
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: D_French Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.northcarolina.counties.currituck/1468/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi All, Here is an update on how the group is progressing. We are reaching out to other counties in Eastern North Carolina as there are many family connections that go back to New Bern and Craven County. The July event and Monument presentation to the City of New Bern went well. The aldermen decided that it should be discussed further so there is going to be a work session this coming Tuesday evening. Please see below for more details. Thank you to the group members that were able to attend the Board of Aldermen meeting. Also, there was a technical glitch with the TV broadcast in regards to the slides for our presentation. They looked great on the screens at City Hall, but not on TV for some reason. You may download a PDF version of the slide presentation via this link. The file is about 20 Megabytes which will download quickly on a high-speed internet connection and much slower on a dial-up. http://tinyurl.com/y2xjlw4 The Families of New Bern and Craven County Meeting Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 3pm at the New Bern-Craven County Public Library, 400 Johnson Street, New Bern We will meet in the conference room off the lobby. We will discuss further details and ideas for the July Event and the monument. We are especially looking for people who would like to participate in the musical entertainment for the Saturday luncheon. Also, those wishing to work with the children at the Family History Fair on Friday and Saturday are encouraged to attend. In addition, those who have scrap booking talents that they would like to share and show others how for the Family Photo Memory Boards for the Family History Fair are welcome to join us. Our meetings and membership are open to everyone who has an interest in local and family history. Everyone is welcome to attend. Bring your ideas and let's have a good time as we celebrate the 300th Anniversary of the Founding of New Bern. Monument Proposal Work Session with the City of New Bern Board of Aldermen Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 5:30pm or 7pm at City Hall, Corner of Craven and Pollock Streets. The work session is open to the public. We encourage everyone who is interested to attend the meeting as this will be a monument in a public venue and citizen input is welcomed. Note: City Hall said that there is a scheduling conflict for the 20th as previously sent out in the last email. They will not know until Monday April 19th if the work session will occur on Tuesday, April 27th at 5:30pm or if they will just discuss the issues at the regular Board of Aldermen meeting at 7pm. Once we know a definite time, we will let everyone know. Monument Proposal Presentation to the Craven County Board of Commissioners Monday, May 3, 2010 at 7pm at Craven County Administration Building, Second Floor, Corner of Craven and Broad Streets Note: Mrs. Gwen Bryan, Clerk to the Board, contacted me with the day and time change as the Board hears from citizens at the first meeting of the month and not the second. We will be presenting the monument proposal to the Craven County Board of Commissioners Monday morning. Everyone who would like to attend and show your support for the monument project is welcome and encouraged to do so. Newspaper Coverage for July Event and Monument Project We are very fortunate to have an article written recently by Mr. Charlie Hall in the Sun Journal. We extend our thanks and appreciation to him for a well-written article. You can read it via the link below. Also, the July event and monument project are receiving press throughout Eastern North Carolina and beyond. If you see an article or notice in your local paper outside of Craven County, please let us know. It would appear that my grandfather Nathan did not have any slaves. Spence and Manloff were half brothers. Spence's mother was Director Hall and father was Thomas Gregory. Probably some of your ancestors were slaves owned by the Hall's as there are wills that indicate that slaves were given to other memebers of the family, Spence Hall's grandfather was Spence Hall and his grandmother was Director Hall and their wills can be found online at the Currituck site Sorry Ann Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I also could use any information on Jacob W Vogh's parents, siblings etc... Thank you for your help! Brooke Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
