Dear Julia, In the 1830s, my ggggrandfather, Malcom SHAW, married his second (or third?)wife, Margaret SHAW, but from the dates, Margaret was not the mother of their children. Margaret SHAW's father was Daniel SHAW, cousin of Malcom, and neighbor. From wills and tax records, their farms in NC were adjacent. Margaret had a brother named Dushee, who did indeed go to Texas. There were other Dushee SHAWs. Malcom's brother was named Dushee. And his great uncle, the immigrant Dushee SHAW, also had a son named Dushee. Nothing is simple, is it? I have a copy of part of a book, sent me by Dr. Buie, that mentions the SHAWs who went to Texas. When I get a chance, I will try to locate it and check for your names. I think there was a Scottish custom that the first son be named after the paternal grandfather, hence so many Scotts in Cumberland Co. with the same given names. In 1810, there were three Malcom SHAWs. Since I knew Malcom's approximate birth date from later TN census records, I used the age groupings in the 1810 census to figure our which was my Malcom. In my generation, I have a cousin from this same family who was given the name Malcom.
