Ruth, Yes, I've read that there was a second group a year or so after the first 1739 group, but never read that the Thistle was the ship used for the second group. And I don't believe there is an extant passenger list for the 39ers, correct? I thought that Malcolm Fowler et. al made the list based on early 1740 deeds to the immigrating highland and lowland Scots along the Cape Fear River ranging from just below Fayetteville in Cumberland Co. up into Harnett County. He made a comprehensive map of those settlers' grants along the river, and included it in one of his books. Please tell where James McDonald's grant was. I have some connections to McDonalds who owned land on Rockfish Creek fairly early, and I haven't been able to identify them. The 1760s is a decade when a large wave of Scots come into the area.
