Is any of this information also pertaining to Cumberland Co. N.C.? From W.C.Field's books,Abstracts of deeds of Cumberland Co. book 1- a William Searcey was a witness on a land deal involving Samuel Johnston Attorney at Law to a George Blair, June 7, 1763. In book 7, May 4, 1782, a Willi Searcey again was a witness to a land deal. If this is also Cumberland Co. I am looking for Thomas Matthews jr. Rev. War record. Sincerely, Ruth M. No. Cumberland County was formed from Bladen County in 1754 so none of the tax lists from 1768-1789 would pertain to Cumberland's people at that time. I belong to both county lists to I sent out a notice to both counties. Ruth Scruggs wrote: >Is any of this information also pertaining to Cumberland Co. N.C.? Edward Searcy, Michael Morell, Exekle Hill are three white men living in one household with one male slave named Joshua. No neighborhood is named, the list is untitled except by date. No women are listed because white women were not taxable. Only black people both male and female and white men of legal age (16 at that time, until 1784 when legal age became 21 for men and women) were taxable. I forgot to give you the date of the first Searcy list with Edward as head of household. It was 1768.
