DEE, I do know that Anson County has a Heritage Book. I found some of my GILMORE ancestors in the book, at the Hampton B. Allen library in Wadesboro, Anson County, in 2000. I have a collection of about 40 of the Heritage books and I will gladly and enthusiastically help in any way possible. Although not always the "Gospel" as far as historic accuracy these books give us information and insight that we will never get from another research source and I'm so afraid that with each passing year we are losing more and more of the very early information. I would love to see the following North Carolina counties issue a Heritage book. 1. CUMBERLAND 2. DUPLIN 3. JONES 4. COLUMBUS 5. BRUNSWICK 6. ANSON 7. NEW HANOVER 8. OLD NEW HANOVER 9. ORANGE 10. OLD MECKLENBURG 11. GREENE 12. PITT 13. BERTIE Plus a dozen more. The real joy/luxury is those Heritage books that have a full name index. I am working on a list of people that I know would help & support, particularly authors of NC resources. I will get that to you as soon as possible but I have a few lookups that I have to get out before the people forget why they requested information. I will also send you a South Carolina list. I'm so proud of you! P.S. As an aside: Jerome Tew is an amazing resource for a meticulously and exhaustively researched Revolutionary War Soldiers list from any county in NC. This information is always a bonus in a well-done heritage book. Since we finished here in Robeson I have been particularly interested in the heritage book concept, so I am currently talking with a couple of publishers now to start doing projects myself. I already talked with the genealogical society over in Fayetteville, Cumberland Co NC, but they they had other projects and didn't seem too interested at the time. Once all of the negotiations are completed with the publishers I plan to spearhead two pilot projects. If I can get a core group of 10 people in Cumberland County to allow me to form them into a Heritage Book Committee like we did here in Robeson then they too can have a great book like we did here. If you have connections in Cumberland, or any other counties in North or South Carolina that might be interested in forming a committee, just let me know.
