    3. Phillip, I am sending a request, once more, I must keep trying. Four years ago, while visiting archives in Raleigh we decided to go on out to Nashville since that is where my family lived (along the river) before there was even a Nash County...early 1760's. I found that 3 of my ancestors had petitioned for Nash County to be split out of Edgecomb since it was so large and took too long for people to travel to the county seat for business...deeds, land grants etc. I stumbled on a booklet called...By Dawn's Early Light and the people in the tax office let me copy some pages but I want a copy of the real petition and also I would buy a book if someone knows where one is to be found. My family line is from Ralph Mason...Mark Mason, Forrest Mason, John then to Isabelle Victoria Mason Fikes to Lelia Elizabeth Fikes Watts, Floyd Lee Watts and me, Betty Lee Watts Streckfuss. thanks for any help. b. ----- Original Message ----- From: Phillip Furr<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, November 22, 2006 4:52 AM Subject: Re: [NCCUMBER] death certificates for Cumberland County Thanks to all, again. 3. Those original petitions may be in the "State Records of North Carolina", a series of books first done at the turn of the century or slightly before. Petitions are something that seemed to have survived better that anything else in the counties; probably because the State was the receiving agency. The library in the county you are interested may possibly have copies of all the petitions that are on record for that county. It's a little hard to get a reply from the Archives right now, they're doing some moving, maybe you should contact the local history society and/or library for Nash County. Good luck.
