Someone was asking about the surname Luterloh recently. Go to capefearclans.com and click on Locale Maps in the navigation bar. There is section of a Cumberland County map that shows the location of families in the county in 1884. Scroll down to the bottom map and you'll find the name Luterhoh on the map just to the right of the middle. Steve

Hi, I would like to communicate with anyone searching for Baxley, Britt, Parnell, Chason, Martin, Prevatt(e), Allen, and Smith. Look forward to hearing from you. Barbara Britt
I'm researching a John RHOADS (or Rhoades, Rhodes, etc) who was born in North Carolina about 1798. There were several men by that name in the state in the early 1800's and I'm trying to identify which is mine and who he married. My John Rhoads was married in North Carolina and had one child there before moving his family to Shelby County, Indiana. He's in the 1830 census in Indiana. By the time the 1850 census came and all family members were listed, John Rhoads' wife had passed away. She apparently died in the late 1840's based on the ages of the children. To find the wife's name, I examined a list of North Carolina marriages at Ancestry and came up with one marriage in Cumberland County that involved a John Rhoads in the right timeframe. John Rhodes married Patsey JONES on 6 September 1814. I'd like to know if anyone is researching this couple and can tell me if the couple left North Carolina for Indiana. Any help is gratefully accepted. Dick Felts
My Cumberland County names are Ainsworth, Hainsworth or Hansworth & Jinks or Jenks. Barbara Montgomery

Fay, The home records are in the archives and some are very detailed. Not only were widows admited but unmarried daughters who had no one to care for them were also residents of the home. A few items in the NC UDC Division headquarters building are from the womens home.. The records are filed with the Auditor General's records since part of the upkeep of the home came from the state.Earl James at archives can be more specific for you on where to find them. GOOD LUCK ( Info recieved from a lover of the Confederate Times)
Thanks to all of you who wrote and suggested where Smithville was. This has been interesting and so many nice folks. I knew it had to be in Harnett County, so it wasn't the Smithfield in Johnson Co. or the Smithville in Mecklenburg County. Or the one that used to be in Brunswick County. It was suggested maybe it had been read wrong and was Summerville. I have found more about Summerville, so that was probably the problem. I am not sure where I found it originally but will run across it one of these days. I live out on the west coast and am hoping to visit the area this summer. Thank you. Lois Haile
There was also a Smithville in Brunswick County. Its name was changed to Southport in the late 1800s. It is near Fort Fisher at the mouth of the Cape Fear. Smithville played a role in the Civil War. Also, I checked the North Carolina Gazetteer by William Powell and there was only one Smithville, but my edition is dated 1983. Myrtle Bridges may be correct--you may be looking for Smithfield.
