But I have some link to NC Military records if anyone is interested, I don't think they went though before, Helen

    1. CAMPBELLs in 1740 thru 1785 CUMBERLAND County NC
    2. Lisa Grimes
    3. Hello all, After too many years to count, my family research...has now brought me backwards in time to the era of 1740 thru about 1785...and a passle of CAMPBELLs that I'm now having to try to sort out...the who belongs to whom. From the wonderful assistance of Carolyn Gibbons...I now have an idea of just how many CAMPBELLs were here in this time frame. Enough to have my eyes glaze over at the prospect of sorting.*S* No serious complaint...not me! I'm just glad that I may have finally found the right place to dig for the following persons: Charles CAMPBELL, b. circa 1730, now proven as "Snr" wife, Elizabeth [I believe her maiden name was Belinden, Balantine, Valentine] sons: Charles Levy [Levi] All four names have finally shown up in this area of NC...and now comes the task of trying to identify...if they are mine. < GRIN > Is there anyone on this list...also researching CAMPBELLs in the 1740 thru 1785 time frame?? I would love to have someone who is familiar with this crowd to ask questions of...as I know nobody in that crowd other than the four that I've listed here. Many thanks for any and all assistance, Lisa Grimes a direct descendant thru Levy [Levi] CAMPBELL... who m. Sarah WATKINS [b. 1763, Johnston Co. NC] d/o Reace [Reech, Rise, Rhys] WATKINS, b. Chester Co., PA Sarah "Sally" BARBER, b. Augusta Co., VA ...resided in NC thru all of the Am. Rev. ...then migrated to Wilkes Co. GA -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 1. SIMMONS
    2. SIMMONS I am seeking any information about my 3rd-Great Grandfather William SIMMONS, born ca. 1793-4 in (Fayetteville, N.C.). His mother/father unknown to me. He fathered at least two children there, Catherine b. ca. 1823 and Hanson Kelly SIMMONS b. ca.1830. I do not know the mother's name. He served in the war of 1812, unknown military unit. There are 5 Wm. SIMMONS on rolls of Cumberland County. About 1840 he and an unnamed brother and their children traveled by mule cart through Georgia. The brother settled in Georgia. Then Rev. Wm. SIMMONS continued on to Dale/Henry county in Alabama about 1840. He died there in 1850 after the census was taken. The 1850 Henry County, Ala. census shows: William Simmons, age 56 b. N.C. - Hanson Kelly Simmons, age 20, b. N.C.

    3. On page 836 in the 2nd edition of the book The Decendents of Cornelius Autrey, Neil Culbreth and Allied Families by V. Mayo Bundy and Robert Autry Brooks, 1996, there is a reference to a cemetary on Cedar Creek Road on land owned by the descendants of the granddaughter (Nancy Catherine Johnson Williams) of Martha "Pat-z" Hall b. ca 1800 and Matthew Johnson b ca 1802 d. 22 Oct 1881. Both Martha and Matthew are buried in this cemetary accouding to Bundy and Brooks. Their son David and his wife Mary Starling (m. 12 Apr 1854) are my gggrandparents. Does anyone know the specific location of this cemetary and whether their is access to it. I will be in Cumberland County in mid August and would like to visit it if possible. Similarly, on page 715 of the book is a reference to the Neil Culbreth Cemetary near Roseboro, Sampson Co, NC on State Road 1002. Any information on the specific location of these sites would be greatly appreciated.
