Looking for anyone working on John Smith Sr. and his wife Patience last name unknown. The lived around the Meadow Township in Johnston Co. in 1810. John died ca. 1813-4 as his son James was taking care of his estate. Although I ran across a record that showed he might have died before 1800. Their children names were James, Lewis, Samuel,Josuah, and daughters were Edith who married Nathan Strickland, Elizabeth, Bedonia who married Thomas Allen, and one of the other girls married a Sims and an Isaac Strickland. Can anyone help more on this line? Thanks, Donna

Helen, Do you know if there was a Louis Baggett later on in one of the Baggett lines you're searching? He would have been born in late 1800s. (Cumberland Co) If so, I have a photo that may be of interest to you. Susan
Looking for any info on these two, would like to know who their parents were and proof that Milly's maiden name was Baggett. Richard Ryals was born 1748 ? and died abt 1818 Cumberland Co., NC (part that later became Harnett). Milly was born about 1850 ? and died after 1841 Cumberland Co., NC. They were my 4th great-grandparents, their daughter Mary Ryals married John C. Ennis in 1827 Cumberland Co., NC. Thanks for any help. Helen Ennis Williams
Does anyone know where Capt. Williams district was in 1810 Cumberland Co., NC census. Thanks, Helen

Of course many Scots settled in our region- so I wanted to send this info to you all! CARMINA GADELICA - WESTERN SCOTTISH FOLK/POETRY HAS JUST BEEN POSTED FOR PUBLIC DOMAIN READING. I have included the short descriptions provided, Links and Table of Contents below. SACRED-TEXTS.COM is a wonderful site with many spiritual, philosophical and other texts, that are available for reading- free to the public. (I spend many evenings online - reading here!) Enjoy! Nancy J. Capps Fayetteville, Cumberland County, NC ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CARMINA GADELICA Hymns and Incantations Ortha Nan Gaidheal Volumes I & II by Alexander Carmichael [1900] Volume I of Alexander Carmichael's collection of folk poetry from the Western Isles of Scotland. Carmichael spent years collecting folklore from the vanishing cultures of Scotland. The poems in this volume include prayers, invocations, blessings and charms. They are a synthesis of Christian and pre-Christian belief systems. Besides invoking Jesus, Mary, and the saints, a number of these call on other powers. One of these is 'Bride,' who is explained as Jesus' midwife, but who is probably Brigid, an ancient Celtic goddess. Also mentioned throughout are a triune deity which is equated to the Christian Trinity, but which may also be an echo of a set of three pagan deities. The text includes notes on seasonal observances and folk customs which are probably likewise survivals of pre-Christian customs. All of these are woven into the cycles of the year, and activities such as weaving, fishing and herding. A vivid picture of life in pre-modern rural Scotland emerges. This etext includes all of the Gaelic VOLUME 1 LINK = _http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/celt/cg1/index.htm_ (http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/celt/cg1/index.htm) (SEE CONTENTS LISTED BELOW) VOLUME 2 LINK = _http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/celt/cg2/index.htm_ (http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/celt/cg2/index.htm) (SEE CONTENTS LISTED BELOW) Volume II of Alexander Carmichael's collection of folk poetry from the Western Isles of Scotland. Volume II includes many incantations for luck, love and good health. This volume also has numerous poems about plants and animals, and extensive notes on the lore associated with them. Besides the complete English and Gaelic text of the poems, and the beautiful initials, this etext includes the extensive glossary, which occupies the last third of the book. This appendix has not been reprinted in any of the contemporary anthologies of the Carmina Gadelica, and appears for the first time on the Internet at this site. It is a treasure trove of Scottish and Celtic lore, and makes fascinating reading. The glossary includes crucial background information about the main text of the book, many shorter poems, and Carmichael's personal insights into the life and beliefs of the people he studied for many years. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CONTENTS OF VOLUME 1 Title Page Contents Introduction I.
