    1. John Smith and Patience of Jo. CO. NC
    2. I'm trying to get in touch with Steven Bramlett who says Patience last name was Bryan. John Smith died in Johnston Co. one will says, died in 1813 and probated in 1813, and one says the will was written in 1803 and probated in 1813, same person with wife and children listed. Although, in 1800 one of their daughters sold her part of land to a brother James Smith, and it is noted that it was land of her father the decd. John Smith. Does anyone else connect to this line? Thanks, Donna in Johnston Co NC

    3. A considerable number of people have written off list asking for my help with their research in Grundy Co., TN. I have no information whatsoever on any TN research. If I was so unclear/misleading when I wrote up the two paragraphs on North Carolinians who migrated to Grundy Co., TN, I apologize and deeply regret that lack of clarity. The two paragraphs I sent were simply research sources I thought possibly useful to NC researchers. Regrets.

    3. I hope this info is useful to someone. __________________________ Grundy County is located in Middle Tennessee, on the border of East Tennessee. The Cumberland mountains divide the county into a series of valleys and plateaus. The county was formed in 1844 with lands from Coffee, Franklin & Warren counties. History of Grundy County Many of the earliest settlers in Grundy County came from North Carolina. They settled primarily in the valleys of Warren and Franklin counties, along the Collins and Elk rivers. During the period from about 1810 to 1840, settlers poured into the wilderness which was to become Grundy County. The records of Warren County detail the Collins River valley settlement during this period, while the Elk River valley was part of Franklin County.

    3. Is the old Bladen County home of Isham and Catherine (MELVIN) SMITH still standing? If so, will somone provide directions from Elizabethtown? An elderly cousin told me the house was on the Stage (Coach?) Road from Fayetteville-Wilmington and was still standing in 1993. I have been unable to locate that road on the maps I have. Thanks for any help.

    3. DEE, I do know that Anson County has a Heritage Book. I found some of my GILMORE ancestors in the book, at the Hampton B. Allen library in Wadesboro, Anson County, in 2000. I have a collection of about 40 of the Heritage books and I will gladly and enthusiastically help in any way possible. Although not always the "Gospel" as far as historic accuracy these books give us information and insight that we will never get from another research source and I'm so afraid that with each passing year we are losing more and more of the very early information. I would love to see the following North Carolina counties issue a Heritage book. 1. CUMBERLAND 2. DUPLIN 3. JONES 4. COLUMBUS 5. BRUNSWICK 6. ANSON 7. NEW HANOVER 8. OLD NEW HANOVER 9. ORANGE 10. OLD MECKLENBURG 11. GREENE 12. PITT 13. BERTIE Plus a dozen more. The real joy/luxury is those Heritage books that have a full name index. I am working on a list of people that I know would help & support, particularly authors of NC resources. I will get that to you as soon as possible but I have a few lookups that I have to get out before the people forget why they requested information. I will also send you a South Carolina list. I'm so proud of you! P.S. As an aside: Jerome Tew is an amazing resource for a meticulously and exhaustively researched Revolutionary War Soldiers list from any county in NC. Since we finished here in Robeson I have been particularly interested in the heritage book concept, so I am currently talking with a couple of publishers now to start doing projects myself. I already talked with the genealogical society over in Fayetteville, Cumberland Co NC, but they they had other projects and didn't seem too interested at the time. Once all of the negotiations are completed with the publishers I plan to spearhead two pilot projects. If I can get a core group of 10 people in Cumberland County to allow me to form them into a Heritage Book Committee like we did here in Robeson then they too can have a great book like we did here. If you have connections in Cumberland, or any other counties in North or South Carolina that might be interested in forming a committee, just let me know. 2. I am president of the Cumberland County Gen Soc and can say that we have not done a Heritage Book. Many people have used a book, "The History of Fayetteville" by John Oates to find articles on families and organizations. The Womans Club of Fayetteville had had it reprinted years ago. I don't know if there might be any copies of it running around. I do have a copy and could do look-ups in it. There have also been books published that have deeds information, early court information (The Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions) and cemetery inventories.
