Thanks for the look-up, Dee. I'll keep looking for my pirate. Next time I go to England, will land at London and pester somebody there. There is bound to be a record of the warrant somewhere. Charles was from Glasgow, Scotland. All of my family from Scotland landed at Wilmington, came up the Cape Fear River to Cross Creek (Fayetteville), but they didn't all stay there. I like to start at Cumberland County to ask Dee questions. Billie
I am very interested in your McCrainey/McRaine/McCrain line. My line goes through Alexander Clark of Moore Co, but after his first wife Margaret Thompson died, he married Margaret McRaine. It's believed she is connected to this line of Murdock, though I have never been able to find anything on her besides the marriage information (someone found the record at the archives in NC). I believe they married in 1813. Alexander Clark's family is still unfound, but we believe he came from Scotland. There was a Bible which has been passed down over the years, and one of the Clark relatives still has it in Calloway Co Kentucky. The Bible has information written in it about Alexander's family, but not his siblings or parents. Alexander was in Moore Co as of 1784 or close to that date. He helped establish Buffalo Presbyterian Church....their first meeting was in a barn on his property. One of Alexander's daughter's married an Alexander Shaw. I haven't worked on this line in a while. ~Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Billie Powell" <billiepowell@sbcglobal.net> To: <nccumber@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 25, 2007 11:05 PM Subject: [NCCUMBER] Shaw, McCraney, Robinson > My Colin Shaw came to Cumberland County, NC from the Isle of Jura, > Scotland, about 1744. Seeking information on SIMON CASEY and/or MARY McGUIRE families. Have found record of their marriage in Cumberland County on 6 May 1819. I believe he may be the father of CORNELIUS CASEY, the wife of AMANDA TRULL CASEY. Possibly there is information in the old Bladen Cnty. records? Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Wm Casey, Naples, FL

Edward Searcy, Michael Morell, Exekle Hill are three white men living in one household with one male slave named Joshua. No neighborhood is named, the list is untitled except by date. My Colin Shaw came to Cumberland County, NC from the Isle of Jura, Scotland, about 1744. He married Marron McCraney, daughter of Murdock McCraney, of the Isle of Jura, Scotland. There were many McCraney families and Shaw families who settled in the area. There was a Malcolm McCrainey born in Scotland (possibly Jura) about 1748. Emingrated to America from Jura about 1802. Living in Robeson County, NC, about 1812. This info about Malcolm is from Scott Buie's book, The People of the Parish of Jura, Scotland, 1506-1811. My Robinson line begins with the second wife of Washington Irving Shaw (greatgrandson of Colin Shaw), b. 1848, who married Mary Graham Robinson, b. 1846. They lived in Sampson County. Grammie was the daughter of Daniel Robinson, b. 1817, and Hannah Caroline Lamb, b. 1826. Daniel Robinson was the son of Duncan Robinson, b. 1771, in Scotland and Mary Sillars, b. 1783. Duncan Robinson was the son of William Robinson and Catherine Sellars. Billie Shaw Powell
Billie, I notice you are "still working on SHAW, McCRANEY,..." My ancestor, Malcom SHAW, migrated from Cumberland Co., NC to Haywood Co., TN about 1835. In the 1850 Haywood Co., TN census, Malcom's household includes an older McCRANEY woman. Do you have any connection between the SHAWs and the McCRANEYs? The census lists Malcom's wife as Margaret, but I know that she is a second (or third) wife and not the mother of his children, Mary Ann, Neil, Dushee, Daniel and Malcom. I have both volumes of the Bladen County Tax Lists covering the years 1768-1789. If anyone would like a lookup in these two volumes, let me know. Be aware that there are no Bladen tax lists for the years 1773, 1777, 1780-85, or 1788. A few are in alphabetical order, the others appear to be listed as the tax poller found them living along his route. Steve Edgerton
