    2. Cora L McDonnell
    3. Dear Julia, In the 1830s, my ggggrandfather, Malcom SHAW, married his second (or third?)wife, Margaret SHAW, but from the dates, Margaret was not the mother of their children. Margaret SHAW's father was Daniel SHAW, cousin of Malcom, and neighbor. From wills and tax records, their farms in NC were adjacent. Margaret had a brother named Dushee, who did indeed go to Texas. There were other Dushee SHAWs. Malcom's brother was named Dushee. And his great uncle, the immigrant Dushee SHAW, also had a son named Dushee. Nothing is simple, is it? I have a copy of part of a book, sent me by Dr. Buie, that mentions the SHAWs who went to Texas. When I get a chance, I will try to locate it and check for your names. I think there was a Scottish custom that the first son be named after the paternal grandfather, hence so many Scotts in Cumberland Co. with the same given names. In 1810, there were three Malcom SHAWs. Since I knew Malcom's approximate birth date from later TN census records, I used the age groupings in the 1810 census to figure our which was my Malcom. In my generation, I have a cousin from this same family who was given the name Malcom. Best wishes, Cora coralmcdonnell@comcast.net ----- Original Message ----- From: Julia Molitz <jmolitz@cox.net> To: <nccumber@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 30, 2007 11:13 PM Subject: Re: [NCCUMBER] Shaw, McCraney, Robinson > Cora, > > Do you have a DUSHEE SHAW born about 1792 NC that went to TX? 3. Dear Cora, I am not sure if the Dushee Shaw that appears on the 1820 Cumberland CO., NC census went to TX or not. I just know that there was one. Dushee Shaw (who I am sure was the bondsman for James Renfrow) appears close to my James Renfrow on that census. ALECY SHAW (not sure of the spelling for census is hard to read) appears next to James Renfow on the 1820 census. Other Shaw's that appear in the same Capt's Company on the 1820 census are Augus, Duncan, John, Daniel, Norman, Archibald, another Daniel and another Shaw I cannot read that looks like the first names starts with a M. Yes, there are just too many men by the same first name. Some have Olive_____Renfrow, Shaw married to a Duncan Shaw. Olive stayed in the Nashville, TN area after her husband Joseph Renfrow was killed by Indians in 1780 for a few years. She then went to KY with her son John. She had a dau Mary who married a cousin of my ggggrandmother Mary Brown Armstrong. Olive and Joseph Renfrow had another child and there is some debate if it was a male or female. There is also a debate if Olive's maiden name was Shaw or married name. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Gratefully, Julia ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cora L McDonnell" <coralmcdonnell@comcast.net> To: <nccumber@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 31, 2007 7:21 PM Subject: Re: [NCCUMBER] Shaw, McCraney, Robinson > Dear Julia, > > In the 1830s, my ggggrandfather, Malcom SHAW, married his second (or > third?)wife, Margaret SHAW, but from the dates, Margaret was not the > mother > of their children. Interesting with all the discussion about McNeill surname. Wonder where this Mary fits in to the picture? Kit Lewis HEW4010@aol.com wrote: There was no info attached.
