I must have missed the first posting. I descend from Andrew Jackson Woodward and wife Clara Clarissa Mitchell of Fayetteville. It sounds like you're talking about the descendants of Clara's older half sister Sarah Mitchell. I can help with the Mitchell and Woodward families if you're interested.
Helen, your postings are very helpful. Keep up to good work. Hi Helen, Which cemetery listing have you used? I've looked at several lists online, and have also visited the cemetery to try to find his grave. No luck, unfortunately. Virginia Vann Branch and some of his siblings (Claude Lee, Callie, and Louise) are buried there. I check back from time to time, as information on the internet always seems to expand and change. Thanks, Will On Feb 3, 2007, at 7:50 PM, HEW4010@aol.com wrote: > Hi Will > Looks like your Virginia Vann Branch was living in Cross Creek > District of > Fayetteville in 1900 census on Hillsboro St, have you checked the > Cross Creek > Cemetery listings on Cumberland web page for your William McNeal > Branch. > Helen > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NCCUMBER- > request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes > in the subject and the body of the message
For anyone interested in the Hubbards from Cumberland County I have set up a page on John Harold Hubbard (first one in NC) and a page on his wife Mary Ann Talbot. My wife has taken his line back 9 generations(all that is in FamilyTree Maker currently) and her line goes back 31 generations. I hope this helps anyone working on this family. My wife has joined several organizations using this documentation: National Society Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America; National Society Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims; National Society Magna Charta Dames; National Society Women Descendants Ancient & Honorable Artillery Co.; Order of Three Crusades 1096-1192 to name a few. If anyone would like more information please contact us. Blake Tyner ************************************ K. Hi Will Looks like your Virginia Vann Branch was living in Cross Creek District of Fayetteville in 1900 census on Hillsboro St, have you checked the Cross Creek Cemetery listings on Cumberland web page for your William McNeal Branch. Helen
Every one is very welcome. Helen
My 3rd great grandfather Zebulon James Hunt served in Company E, 18th Infantry Regiment North Carolina and was imprison in Elmira. What little information I've been able to uncover is that he refused to sign allegiance so there fore remain in prison until the end. Zebulon was capture Aug 27, 1862 and was release in 1864 after the ending of the war. He was born in Cumberland but made he home in Pender Co., NC where he returned until his death on Sep 22, 1897. Based on what reading material I found considering the living conditions "just horrid for everyone!" he was one of the few surviving. I'd be very interested should anyone have any further information. Teri, I am DAR through my Mark Mason of Nash County. I know of at least one other Mason descendant who is also DAR through him, her family settled in TN...another is deceased and lived in Raleigh who was also DAR. We all went back to Mark. His Patriot service was under Capt. Hardy Griffin and he was mustered out of Colonial Soldiers at age 50, in 1874, a year before actual war. You can find him in Capt. James Cones Co. Page 664-65, Colonial Soldiers. That might give you some information you don't have. Here is a brief descendant list: Mark to Foster to John to Isabelle Victoria (Mason) Fikes to Lelia Elizabeth (Fikes) Watts to Floyd Lee Watts to Betty Lee Watts Streckfuss, that's me. Mark was, I believe the 2nd generation in this colony...they came in through Isle of Wight then to NC. lived in Cumberland a bit then Edgecomb. Mark and some of his brothers were Petitioners who helped create Nash county. Get a copy of By Dawn's Early Light if you can find it and also read Green Paths of North Carolina...if you can find it. I have searched and questioned for years with no luck. I was able to copy some pages out of a copy I found in the tax assessors office in Nashville, NC. I would love a copy. Anyway....maybe that will get you somewhere ahead of where you are now. We do have Abner's in our line but haven't ever seen a Sion Wilson. Betts S. Hi all, I'm looking for help with my Cumberland County connections. Generation 4 My grandfather was William Woodward Branch, born in Sanford, NC in 1907, died 1958 in Birmingham, AL. He married Alice Lucille Hornbuckle, born 1911 in Bessemer City, NC, died 1997 in Victoria, TX. William Woodward Branch was the oldest of four children born to William McNeal Branch and Lillian Pearl Woodward, who married in 1906. William Woodward 1907 - 1958 James Lee 1909 - ca. 1911 Emma Virginia 1912 - 1991 Samuel Parrish 1917 - 2001 Generation 3 William McNeal Branch was born in Fayetteville, NC in 1880 and died sometime around 1918-19, place unknown, possibly from the flu. Lillian Pearl Woodward was born 1882 in Raleigh, NC, died 1961, New Bern, NC. William McNeal Branch was the 2nd child of William McNeal (Mack?) Branch and Virginia Ruth Vann, who married in 1875. Stella May 1877 - 1878 William McNeal 1880 - ca. 1918 Claude/Claudie Lee 1882 - 1907 Callie Belle 1883 - 1970 Lila Gray 1888 - 1916 Louise K/Katie Louise 1892 - 1980 Generation 2 William McNeal (Mack?) Branch was born 1852 and died before 1914, places unknown. Virginia Ruth Vann was born in NC in 1860, died 1926 in Fayetteville. William McNeal (Mack?) Branch was the son of M Branch and L Unknown. Any siblings are unknown. Generation 1 M Branch is said to have lived in Robeson County, NC. He died after Nov. 11, 1875. L Unknown died before Nov. 11, 1875. I am specifically looking for the following information, but would welcome any input or suggestions: * confirmation of birth/death dates for James Lee (Generation 4) * death date/place/cause for William McNeal Branch (Generation 3) * any information about William McNeal (Mack?) Branch (Generation 2) * any information about M or L Branch, their family, and their ancestors (Generation 1) * any information about the McNeal name and any possible connection to other families with the same or similar name (MacNeil, McNeil, etc.) Thanks in advance. Will Branch
