    1. [NCCUMBER] MASSIE TRUELOVE PARKER WEAVER Lineage MASSIE TREE
    2. Annette: All those family surnames crossing again! Interesting... mine were affiliated as follows: My WEAVER connection is paternal. Charlotte WEAVER (married Noel SMITH ) was my GGG grandmother through her daughter NANCY ANN SMITH (who married William 'HENRY' CAPPS). My maternal PARKERs are from Johnston County, NC. My maternal grandmother- LAURA A PARKER STRICKLAND was the daughter of JOHN 'KEN' PARKER and MATTIE TRUELOVE. Our Parkers Descend from the BEASLEYs /FERRELL and BAREFOOTs of Johnston County. It is entirely possible that the SC PARKERS you mention are distantly related but as of right now I am not familiar with the names you spoke of. I do know some of our early PARKERS branched into Cumberland and surrounding counties. MASSIE CONNECTIONS: The TRUELOVES of Cumberland County, who settled into (then) Cumberland County in the later 1700's, along wiith the AVENTS.; all descended from AMY MASSIE . I have been researching the McDougald and related families of SE NC and NE SC where I see that many of your names also lived including both Parker and Massie.  It is thought that Daniel A(rthur) McDougald (b. abt. 1806/8 in Cumberland/Robeson, NC) married about 1842 Massie Parker (not sure about surname Parker) born about 1825 in SC. Daniel and Massie lived and raised their children in Teal's (once Grant's) Mill in the Cheraw area of Chesterfield, SC.  I did find a Massie Parker, d/o Stephen, in Marlboro Co., SC who married Cannon Weaver, but she was born about 1795, a generation earlier than my Massie.  My brickwall has been in finding any documentation that Massie, born 1825, was or may have been a Parker or who her parents may have been. Family oral tradition is that she is of Native American descent. Do you have any references or information that would help me in my search? Sincerely, Annette Rawls, 510 Highway 114 Rison, Arkansas 71665 jabr3640@tds.net

    2. Jim: Interestingly enough, we know a little about the Alabama County series. Yes it is quite an undertaking, but well worth it. There is one major difference between the NC County Heritage series and Alabama. The sponsoring County groups here in North Carolina make a profit. That certainly helps "spur us on"! If it were an easy task, it would already have been done! Lets hear it for a great big successful Cumberland County Heritage book! C. 3. Listmembers, I need a lookup from someone who has a Cumberland County book of deeds abstracts, please. In 1774 William WEST obtained two grants of land. One grant was for 200 acres and that land was located between the two Little Rivers joining Col. SMITH's land. The other grant was for four hundred acres located on the upper side of Upper Little River. I need to know when that land was sold and to whom. On the back of each grant is the name J. DICKSON, Senr. Was he a court official or was he in fact purchaser of William's lands? Thanks for any help. Fran powell@closecall.com

    3. These County Heritage Books are a wonderful source of family history. The Anson County Heritage Book , which I found in the library in Wadesboro, while on a "gennie" trip, contained a story about my line of GILMORES, which I would have never found otherwise. We just completed one of these Heritage books in my home county of Coffee County, Alabama. My wife and I contributed several family stories about her Coffee County families; the SMITHS, who came thru Rockingham County NC; and the GRIMES, who came thru Duplin County NC. 1. Re: [NCCUMBER] Heritage Book
    2. Not a problem. We all have different opinions. Here's mine. A Heritage book on Cumberland County would be a vital tool for research, or just plain enjoyment. Have you seen the new Robeson Co., NC book yet? That would help...seeing that book with hundreds and hundreds of family genealogies, histories and beautiful photos. One of the best NC County Heritage books we've ever seen! Lets hear it for a new Cumberland Co. Heritage book! C. 2. Annie: We're in the "Amen corner" here ma'am. Yes those two books; Anson and Richmond are beautiful works. A Cumberland Co. Heritage would enjoy wide circulation! When will they launch the project? 1. [NCCUMBER] bond information
    2. Margaret Sessions
    3. Where would I write for a copy of a bond of a marrige in 1863 in Cumberland county, NC? I am looking for a copy of the bond for Charity Wright and Edward Robert Newell, 12/1863, and there are 3 bonds for her father that I would like to get copies of. If someone could help I would appreciate it. My cousin wrote to a place in Fayetteville and they just told her they did not have the information. Thanks for the help.
