    1. [NCCUMBER] Please excuse the earlier virus hoax
    2. penny craver
    3. The e-mail I sent you earlier today regarding a virus is a hoax. (See article below) and I sincerely apologize. Obviously some people don't have enough to do if they have time to dream up such aggravating tricks. Jdbgmgr.exe Hoax (AKA Teddy Bear Virus) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First Published April, 2002 Updated November, 2002 / January, 2003 /March, 2003 This hoax claims that a virus with a file name jdbgmgr.exe has infected your computer and that it is undetectable by all Anti-Virus Software. It claims you must delete this virus manually to avoid damage to your computer data. This is false, and jdbgmgr.exe is a file found on almost all Windows systems. Why? Because Microsoft wrote this file for all Windows systems. The latest incarnation of this hoax claims that jdbgmgr.exe is the infecting file for the BlankA Virus. Much of the rest of the message has stayed the same. Some of the versions have been calling jdbgmgr.exe the Teddy Bear Virus. The warning says jdbgmgr.exe is a virus and urges users to delete this file. As it turns out, this is a legitimate Windows program. It does have a teddy bear icon, but this is normal for this program. There is a real virus called BugBear, but it is unrelated to this file. Bugbear does not display any bear icons and someone may have made a connection between the word bear in Bugbear and the icon for the jdbgmgr.exe file. But no connection exists. This "warning" is trying to scare you into deleting a file which is found in virtually all Windows OS versions. It is used to debug Java programs, but is definitely not a virus and can do no harm to your computer. There are several viruses that can target this file and infect it with a virus. However, the teddy bear icon does not mean this file is infected. All the updated anti-virus software programs will detect the presence of a virus in this file. Scan your system if you want to ease your mind, but don't delete any file just because of a warning received in an e-mail. It is not necessary or desirable to delete this program. Just delete the e-mail scare letter instead. If it is too late and you did delete it you can get it back by reinstalling the latest version of Internet Explorer. However, please note this message from Microsoft technicians: "The Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java (Jdbgmgr.exe) is only used by Microsoft Visual J++ 1.1 developers. If you follow the e-mail message instructions and delete this file, you do not have to recover it unless you use Microsoft Visual J++ 1.1 to develop Java programs on Windows XP, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 98, or Windows 95. For Windows XP, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 98, and Windows 95: Reinstall Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM)." _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam? 2. I have seen this hoax many times. You will need to reload the file you took out. I appreciate your sense of community  in sending the warning. As far as you knew- it was valid. And of course- through this process you have now discovered its' deception. Thank you for your consideration! Nancy J. 1. [NCCUMBER] Virus - I have passed to all contacts in my address book
    2. penny craver
    3. Dear All, BlankA virus has been passed to me by a contact. My address book in turn has been affected. Since you are in my address book there is a good chance you will find it in your computer too. I followed the directions below and eradicated the virus easily. The virus (called jdbgmgr.exe) is not detected by Norton or McAfee anti-virus systems. The virus sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the system. It is sent automatically by messenger and by the address book whether or not you sent emails to your contacts. Here is how you check for the virus and get rid of it. 1. Go to start, find or search option. 2. In the file/folders option, type the name: jdbgmgr.exe 3. Be sure to search your C: drive and all the subfolders and any other drives you may have. 4. Click "find now" 5. The virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe. DO NOT OPEN IT 6.GO TO EDIT (ON THE MENU BAR), CHOOSE "SELECT ALL" TO HIGHLIGHT THE FILE WITHOUT OPENING IT. 7. Now go to the file (on the menu bar) and select delete. It will then go to the recycle bin. IF YOU FIND THIS VIRUS, YOU MUST CONTACT ALL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK SO THEY CAN ERADICATE IT IN THEIR OWN ADDRESS BOOKS. To do this: (a) Open a new e-mail message (b) Click on the icon of the address book next to the "TO" (c) Highlight every name and add to "BCC" (d) Copy this message above and paste to e-mail. (e) Enter subject Apologies for the inconveniences and to the those who have had this message several times from different people! _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 with e-mail virus protection service: 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/virus

    3. Hello Sam, I haven't researched the Kelly line specifically. Angus and Hugh Kelly witness Robert Smith's will of 1813. The 1850 Cumberland / Harnett Census lists Hugh Kelly age 75 and Margaret Kelly age 74. Listed next to Hugh Kelly is Robert Smith and wife Elizabeth, then next to Robert is John and Lovedy Smith with daughters Sarah age 8, Christian age 2 and Margaret age 2 months and a son John age 8. Living next to John is David Smith and wife Ann. Robert, John and David Smith were brothers. That's all I have. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Sam_West@ncsip.duke.edu> To: <NCCUMBER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2003 9:47 AM Subject: Re: [NCCUMBER] William Smith 1835 Johnsonville, Harnett Co. > > Hi! > > I am working on the family of Angus Kelly. William Smith left Johnsonville for Caintuck, New Hanover County, NC between 1856 and 1861. William E. Smith's mother died about that time. The John A. Cameron family of Johnsonville adopted William E. Smith in 1861. I am interested in one additional Smith family that lived near the Camerons. That family was Daniel Smith born 1795 and wife Margaret born 1797. They had a son William born 1833. Other sons were Neill, John, Daniel, Angus and James Smith. Their daughters were Christian and Catherine Smith. Would you have this family listed in your book? Thanks again. I really appreciate your help in my search. I have a Smith family in the book "CHARN CUIMHNE Smiths &Related Families", which could be yours. Robin Smith b. about 1720, Argyllshire, Scotland d. N.C., m. to Mary Crawford. Came to N.C. 1747 from Scotland and settled on a land grant in the present Moore Co. N.C., not far from Old Cypress Church. He had one known son, John Smith, b. N.C. d. N.C., m. to Christian Cameron. They had 9 children, including 4 sons, Robert, William, John David, and "John or Jack". Robert, b. Aug. 5, 1796 Moore Co., d. 1862, buried at Cypress Church (Presbyterian), m. prob. Wake Co. to Elizabeth McGee (b. 1803, d. 1877, buried Cypress Church) from that county. Their 11 children included William Smith, b. May 21, 1829 d. 1897. After this, the book seems to follow the line of Alexander, one of William's brothers. There appear to be some discrepancies between this family and yours, but there are many similarities. I don't know if you are familiar with this area, but the area described as! being the Smith home is called Lobelia. It is hardly more than an intersection now but once had a post office in the Smith house. It is located in Moore Co., but is only about 8 miles from Johnsonville, which is in Harnett Co. Cypress Church is prob. less than 5 mi. away. I live about 10 mi. or less from Lobelia and Cypress Church.
