    3. Why don't you contact the NC Dept of Archives and History and have them print out a copy for you? They can then send it to you. I don't know what the cost is because I lived about a mile from the archives so I go and find a deed if I want it. They are open on Saturday but close for an hour at lunchtime. 3. Hi Ruth. I had contact with Col Vic Clark several years ago before his passing. He thought that our Alexander was connected, but didn't know how. He was not well at the time, and just told me to ask around for those records. The problem is that Alexander Clarke who came in 1739, is not the right one. My Alexander is documented in about 1784 on Buffalo Creek. He married Margaret Thompson first (no records), and then Margaret McRaine in 1813 in Cumberland Co. Several of his children left Moore Co, and moved to Calloway Co Kentucky. I think Alexander died before 1830. If you have anything regarding Alexander Clark who lived on Buffalo Creek....that is the right one. Other than that, I cannot prove any other family relationships. Thanks. ~ Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ruth Scruggs" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, January 26, 2007 8:13 PM Subject: Re: [NCCUMBER] Shaw, McCraney, Robinson > Dear Mary, I have the first copies of Argyle Colony Plus, published by > the late Col. 3. Yes, thanks, Dee, I have the cemetery information. Charles McGregor Bannerman and many of his descendants are buried in the cemetery on the old Bannerman/Shaw farm in Sampson County, NC. I have visited twice, while attending Shaw family reunions. The old Bannerman house still stands on the farm in a soybean field. It won't stand much longer, I am afraid. The ownership of the farm passed out of the family, but the man who owns the farm keeps the cemetery cleared of brush. Rev. Colin Shaw and his wife, Phoebe Williams Bannerman Shaw, are also buried there. Billie in Texas

    3. Dear Steve, the Bible and family records in Vol. 1-2 ACPlus, of Alexander Clark. His Father was Gilbert, a half brother to Kenneth. Col.Vic traced his line of Clarks. From my understanding, the Thistle made another trip in 1741, but the passenger list is lost. My James McDonald appeared in 1760, Cross Creek, Cape Fear River,200 acre land grant from the King. He wasn't a Loyalist, so he didn't fight against the Rev. war. We are not sure When James came over, but know that he came from Scotland, possibly Skye. We have a good record of him till he died in 1810 in Jefferson Co. Ga. Sincerely, Ruth M. Scruggs -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Steve E. Foote Sketches of N.C. states that an Alexander Clarke arrived in the upper Cape Fear region of N.C. in 1739, from the Isle of Jura off the west coast of Scotland. Many names are mentioned. I will be glad to copy and snail mail this info and more that is in the books, if this is the one you are looking for. Sincerely, Ruth M. I believe they married in 1813. Alexander Clark's family is still unfound, but we believe he came from Scotland. There was a Bible which has been passed down over the years, and one of the Clark relatives still has it in Calloway Co Kentucky. The Bible has information written in it about Alexander's family, but not his siblings or parents. Alexander was in Moore Co as of 1784 or close to that date. He helped establish Buffalo Presbyterian Church....their first meeting was in a barn on his property. One of Alexander's daughter's married an Alexander Shaw. 3. I am researching SHAW'S also. EDITH _____1784 NC-1868 TN married JAMES GILBERT b 1775/1784, d bef. 1814 Cumberland CO., NC. Edith and James children where: 1. Christiany b 1790/1800 2. James b 1790/1800 3. Martha "Patsy" b 1790/1800 The above family appear on the 1810 Cumberland CO., NC. census. James GILBERT could be the son of JAMES GILBERT AND CEILY also on same census. EDITH____ GILBERT married second time (in Cumberland CO., NC in 1814) to JAMES RENFROW. The bondsman was DUSHEE SHAW. I believe that Edith was James Renfrow's 2nd wife. James Renfrow appears on the 1800 and 1810 Cumberland CO., NC census but with his first family. JAMES RENFROW AND EDITH had the following known children. 1. James and 2. Rebecca There was a JOSEPH RENFRO who was killed by Indians (ca.1780) at the Cumberland Settlement (Nashville, TN) who was married to OLIVE. Olive then married a SHAW. How was the above DUSHEE SHAW (bondsman) related to the other many Shaw's at that time in Cumberland CO., NC? Did OLIVE___RENFRO, SHAW marry a Shaw from the Cumberland CO., NC Shaw's? EDITH___,GILBERT, RENFROW married a 3rd time to a MR. SWINDLE. I believe the EDE SWINDLE head of house hold on the 1830 White CO., TN is my Edith. Edith was in Lincoln CO., TN with her son James F. Renfrow on the 1840 and 50 census. On the 1850 census she had no last name but on the 1860 Lincoln CO., TN census she is still living with her son but she now has a last name of SWINDLE. This is the name on her head stone. Her daughter REBECCA RENFROW married JAMES WRIGHT b 1818, NC. Rebecca and James where married lived and died in Lincoln CO., TN. They where my great grandparents. Other surnames connected to the Gilberts and Renfrow's where: PYLANT, BROWN, JOHNSON, STINSON, JONES, MOORE, & more Cumberland CO. & Wake CO. NC names. Julia Wright Molitz

    3. I assume that you have the cemetery information? For a detailed bibliography on the reference sources used for lookups refer to this Link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncbladen/lookups.htm   -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Billie Powell Sent: Friday, January 26, 2007 9:46 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [NCCUMBER] Charles McGregor Bannerman Thanks for the look-up, Dee. I'll keep looking for my pirate. Next time I go to England, will land at London and pester somebody there. There is bound to be a record of the warrant somewhere. Charles was from Glasgow, Scotland. All of my family from Scotland landed at Wilmington, came up the Cape Fear River to Cross Creek (Fayetteville), but they didn't all stay there. I like to start at Cumberland County to ask Dee questions. 3. I can say pretty safely, without seeing the document, that (IF the deed is from Cumberland, Robeson, Bladen, Richmond or any county around the Cape Fear area) it means: "...execution – Coll McDougal and others...." The '–' was a dash used as punctuation in almost every single deed I've ever transcribed/seen, and I've read and transcribed 2 or 3 thousand of them. Deeds were "executed" ("the execution of this deed, etc") by way of being made legal, sometimes used to mean recorded within the records of the county. Coll was a Scottish given name which was probably short for Collin/Colin, or may have been a given name in itself. There was a Coll McAllister in early Bladen/Cumberland County records of the mid 1700s. Some people have thought it meant Col. as in the abbreviation of 'colonel', but Coll was his first name. It seems you've got some abstracts below. It's always a better idea, when possible, to go to the original deed at state archives and read it ALL and print a copy of it. Abstracts let you know the main facts, but there are lots of little, possibly important, details in a deed that an abstract omits. In having a copy of the original you'll have the call numbers of the property itself so that you can compare them to call numbers in a later different deed—that way you could possibly connect separate generations of the same family simply because they've kept the same piece of property in their possession.
