Lib, Hugh McPherson was the son of Daniel McPherson and Marian McNeill McPherson of Raft Swamp in Robeson County. Daniel McPherson was the son of Old John McPherson of the Argyll Colony and Marian McNeill is strongly believed to have been the daugher of "Shoemaker John" McNeill and Mary Peterson of Bladen/Robeson County. Here is all I have on Emen and Sarah Ann McPherson Parker: Hugh McPherson. Born in Robeson County, NC, 7 May 1793; died in 1818 in Richmond Co., NC. Hugh is believed to have been enlisted in the local militia during the War of 1812. Married Christian Ferguson about 1815. Christian was alive in 1842, but nothing further has been found on her. Hugh's estate records are found in Richmond Co., NC. As stated in a court depostion by his sister, Catherine Brown, Hugh had "two legitimate children" below named: 1. Daniel McPherson, born October 1816. Records say he bought a horse and gun from his gruardian, Archibald Gilchrist, went west about 1836. He returned off and on for his father's estate proceedings until 1842 after which time he is not found again. He may have moved to Mississippi. No further information. (This Daniel is NOT the Daniel McPherson who married Mary Ann Munroe in Robeson County, NC. These two Daniels were first cousins.) 2. Sarah Ann McPherson, born c.1818-1819. Married in 1839 at the home of her and her brother's guardian, Archibald Gilchrist on Lumber River in Robeson County, NC, to Emmen Parker. Emmen (Emon or Emmon) was the son of Moses Parker of Revolutionary War fame and Nancy Thomas, both of Marlboro District, South Carolina. Emmen and Sarah Ann had four sons known: William, Henry, Moses, Jesse Parker. I understand Emen and Sarah Ann moved around from state to state for a number of years and finally settled back in Marlboro County, SC. Elizabeth McPherson wrote: >Steve, You are correct. I am aware of Barbecue Presbyterian Church on Barbecue Creek near the Lee/Harnett County Line (can't remember just which county the church is in. But I'm not aware of Buffalo Creek and Buffalo Presbyterian Church. This is the title page of James Vann Comer's book................ THE BOUNTIFUL LEGACY OF A MOTHER BUFFALO PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Buffalo Community / Sanford, North Carolina (1797 -1997) Researched and Compiled by James Vann Comer Cornelia All of those counties were formed from Cumberland County, I believe. I have roots in both Moore and Harnett County (east and west of southern Lee County) - strong Presbyterian roots beginning about 1754. I've been away from the area in my adulthood, but these postings have raised a question in my mind. Clark's Bridge in Harnett County where Clarks in the Argyll groups settled in 1739 is in Harnett County not very far from Barbecue Church which was the first Presbyterian Church organized in that area (about the same time as Longstreet Presbyterian, located in the Fort Bragg Reservation, and Bluff, on the east side of the Cape Fear River in Cumberland County. The postings the last few days seem to fit Barbecue?: Which is correct? Lib McPherson Steve E. wrote: > Donnie and Mary, > > Do you know what John McPherson married the Flora Kelly? Oh no, I am interested in the proximity........I just need to know where I should be looking. I'm sorry. I thought you were interested in the proximity of Cumberland County to Buffalo Creek in Lee County, and why someone might leave Lee/Moore to go to Cumberland. Steve, You are correct. Moses Parker did have a son Emon/Emmon/Emen among his 22 children (11 each from 2 wives) and 2 adopted children. I know very little about Emon/etc. but would like very much to have this information. I am a descendant of his son Philip, Philip's son Gary (Gustavus Beauregard), and Gary's son Kirk. I maintain the family records for Gary's descendants along with a current address directory for the family which is updated every other year when we have our annual reunion. I am working on Philip's descendants and have a lot of information which has been supplied to me by other descendants of Philip Parker's children. A number of people have done extensive research on Moses and his descendants, but I have seen nothing that confirms any of his siblings, parents, etc. For many years we only knew that there were 2 adopted children, But about 5 years ago a descendant of Pleasant Parker who lives in SC contacted me after seeing my posting on GenWeb. She shares some old family photos with one identified as his brother Philip. It is the same photo that I have which we "thought" was Philip. There are several different lists of Moses' children, and some of us led by a descendants of Moses' oldest daughter, Sarah, charted all the names to produce a viable list. I haven't looked at it for a while, but think Emon was on the viable list. The fact that you have info on him is valuable to this list, for I believe we had little or no info on him. HI Henry. Yes have been working on the CHARLES STEWART and HANNAH "JOANNA" KIRK line for around 30 years, my late husband was a descendant of JOSEPH STEWART and ELIZABETH MATTHEWS, JOSEPH being a son of CHARLES # 1 along with CHARLES # 2 GEORGE and JAMES, I lived in Benson NC for several years, but moved to Chester VA, in 1980 when my husband passed away, so that I could be close to my three sons , I have been somewhat lax in doing any genealogy of late, but did find out a couple of years back that my son's DNA matches a man who's ancestry goes back to Spotsylvania CO VA and previously Ireland earlier than 1747, where as it was thought by family genealogist that our CHARLES came from Scotland, and was in Wake Co NC by 1750, I have not put on the computer what work I have done, for one thing it would be a major enterprise, as I have approximately 7-10 4 inch loose leaf note books that I have filled, anyhow if I can be of help do not hesitate to contact me, and which one of the sons of CHARLES is your ancestor Joyce
Buffalo Presbyterian then is west of the Barbecue Presbyterian Church community on Barbecue Creek. Col. Vic Clark told me that Clark's Bridge in the Anderson Creek Township of Harnett County was named for his ancestor who settled there when the Argyll group came in 1739. My Ray and Black ancestors settle about a mile from that bridge, and my grandfather was born there. I went there many times when I was growing up, but rarely in the last 50 years. However, I was at Barbecue Presbyterian in the last 5 years for the NC Presbyterian Historical Society annual meeting. A distant cousin who lives there now graciously gave us a guided tour of the Black and McRae family cemeteries near Clark's Bridge and other places of interest. My Clark line was definitely part of Buffalo Presbyterian......at least according to the book about the church, The Bountiful Legacy of a Mother, Buffalo Presbyterian Church. Alexander Clark's barn was used for one of the first services. By the 1830 though, most of his children migrated to Calloway Co Kentucky. I cannot find anything as to where he was buried, who his family was, etc. The only thing I ever found that has confused me was this excerpt from Rassie Wicker's, Miscellaneous Ancient Records of Moore County, N.C. -- page 314, "Clark -- Primarily a Drowning Creek family. Alexander was on Big Buffalo Creek, Lee County. Archibald on Jackson's Creek and Nevin on Drowning Creek near the mouth of the Devil's Gut. There were several later families on Drowning Creek, representatives still remaining." There are so many Archibald Clarks, I couldn't connect. I don't think I ever found anything on Nevin Clark. I would love to be able to "prove" some kind of family connection though. (Until I dug up all my notes, I guess I knew at one time Moore was part of Lee, etc., but had forgotten. I haven't worked on the Clark line in a while.) ~ Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth McPherson" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, February 01, 2007 10:01 PM Subject: Re: [NCCUMBER] Shaw, McCraine, Thompson, Kelly, McIver, CLARK >I am aware of Barbecue Presbyterian Church on Barbecue Creek near the > Lee/Harnett County Line (can't remember just which county the church is > in. I am aware of Barbecue Presbyterian Church on Barbecue Creek near the Lee/Harnett County Line (can't remember just which county the church is in. But I'm not aware of Buffalo Creek and Buffalo Presbyterian Church. All of those counties were formed from Cumberland County, I believe.
