    3. David, thanks for this update. Do you have an email address or phone number for Dr. Fonvielle? I need to contact him about his research on the Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge during the Revolutionary War. I understand that he is working on a manuscript about this battle. I am preparing an article which touches on this battle and need to ask Dr. Fonvielle several questions. Or you can just forward this message to him for his reply to me. Your help is appreciated. Officials of the 1970 NC State Fair decided to honor NC’s one-hundred years of farming history by recognizing all the families who had continuously owned or operated a farm in the State for 100 years or more. Their search found more than 800 farms that qualified as a Century Farm. The Century Farms initiative continues to recognize such farms today. Janice’s family owns one of these farms. She will be explaining the program, the process of applying for recognition, and how her family is benefiting from the program. Hope you can be there........... Sylvia P.S. 1. [NCCUMBER] ROBESON COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY MEETING - TODAY
    2. Sam West
    3. Our meeting *today*, Saturday 7 September, at *2pm* will be in *St. Pauls*at *Dachshunds Run* (or “*The Farm*”). It is on 20-East just east of downtown (within the city limits) on the right-side of the road. It is a 2-story 1840s farmhouse that belonged to the McKinnon, McArthur, Kinlaw, and Johnson families. Restoration started on the place in 2011-2012. The house is now painted blue, with flags at the road. We will tour the farm and learn about its history and that of its previous owners. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes for walking-about outdoors. A hat, bottled water, and bug spray may come in handy. We’ll use their picnic tables for our meeting. They can also be used for resting or snacking -- Sam West Lumberton, Robeson Co NC e-mail: sam.west.1@gmail.com "Not all of us can do great things, but we all can do small things in a great way." author unknown

    1. Re: [NCCUMBER] James and Nancy Ann WEST THAGGARD
    2. CAROLYN Gibbons
    3. John B and Nancy Thagard are on the 1850 census Eastern Division page 66A; they have what appears to be a set of twins, Harriet M and Catharine S, both 3 months old. They are each 24. There is also a 28 year old Catharine West and a 12 year old Edward Hollingswirth in the household. He was initially indexed as Shagard on Ancestry; since been corrected. This does not PROVE anything but there was a James Thagard married Susannah Hollingsworth 30 Jul 1821 in Cumberland. Something to explore especially as there was a Hollingsworth in the household. These are possibly James B's parents. James B's estate (the 1866 one) mentions widow Nancy; 100 acres of land. There is more, check it out. >From Volume 2 of Cumberland County Cemetery Survey edited by Nancy Fisher Ewing and Robert McLemore Butler printed by the Cumberland County Genealogical Society Jan 2001: page 122 Thagard Cemetery, Cedar Creek Twp. Thagard, Edney, wife of W. McD Thagard 28 Aug 1844 - 1 Dec 1866 Thagard, Susanna [Hollingsworth] wife of James Thagard 22 Jul 1802 - 24 Dec 1886 Thagard James, 30 Jan 1801 - 16 May 1861 "This site is possibly the burial site of George Thagard and Ann Jessup, parents of James Thagard." "[Susanna Hollingsworth Thagard was the daughter of Stephen and Annie Smith Hollingsworth]" Checked the Abstracts from the Fayetteville Observer for Thagard and did not find a marriage nor a death for either of yours mentioned. I suggest checking the Cumberland County Deeds for where James got his 100 acres. Possibly from his father. Or from his wife's father. Check out the wills for Thagard and Hollingsworth. They should be online at www.familysearch.org (if they exist) under probate. I did a little checking. James B Thaggard's will is in Book D page 86. He lists all of his brothers and a sister. Names wife Nancy Ann. Written 20 jan 1864, presented in court Mar 1866. I have saved it if you want it and will let me know. Checked the index online for Hollingsworth. Did not see a will mentioning Nancy Thagard from any. None early enough except for one probably way to early. ----- Original Message ----- From: "FredandMaryFran Powell" <fredandmaryfran@gmail.com> To: "Cumberland County Mailing List" <NCCUMBER@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 15, 2013 11:24:14 AM Subject: [NCCUMBER] James and Nancy Ann WEST THAGGARD Nancy Ann West b. c1826 m.
