Posted on: Chowan County NC. Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Chowan?read=754 Surname: Douglas ------------------------- It certainly does appear we are all searching for an Alexander Douglas link! I have just begun my search, and all my current information is from my father (who has extensive documentation) or from various websites (which I have not substantiated but will note to that effect). I am a direct descendant of Alexander William Douglas, born in 1797 in Montgomery Co., GA and died 13 NOV 1870 in Appling Co., GA. He married Dicy Watson on 14 FEB 1828 in what is now Ware Co., GA. He and Dicy are buried at Douglas Chapel in Alma, Bacon Co., GA (as are his descendants to present). Now for the information gleaned from websites, etc. We suspect a connection between our Alexander William and the Alexander and Elizabeth Webb (from Chowan Co.) to which several of you have referred. However, we suspect that the Alexander (Chowan Co.) was our Alexander William's uncle. Family stories indicate that Alexander (Chowan Co.) had a brother, Frederick, who was our Alexander William's father. HOWEVER, we have been unable to find any documentation to substantiate. To make for even more "fun", according to "Douglas-One Family's Story" by Stacy Clinton Douglas, the Alexander from Chowan Co. who married Elizabeth Webb was not born there but immigrated from Tyrone Co. Ireland sometime after 1770. Do any of you have documentation supporting or refuting this report? As I mentioned, I am learning about genealogy from my father and am still figuring out the research process. I would appreciate any input on the above or genealogy in general. I would welcome correspondence. Thank you. Jennifer (hifromjgd@aol.com) p.s. I've emailed the Chowan Co. Chamber for information on a Historical or Genealogical Society. I will post any info.
