Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Chowan/10948 Surname: Lewis, Luten, Smith, Matthews ------------------------- In Chowan County, one of my two LEWIS family lines is carrying the name, "Luten Lewis" and apparently was early intermarried with the Thomas Luten (Sr. or Jr.) line there in Chowan County. I'm laid-up with a disk problem at the moment and cannot drag out all my Lewis & Luten records for you, but I have most of my Lewis line of Chowan figured out except the very earliest segment. Jumping into the line at the level of "Luten Lewis" - Luten was father of ELVEY LEWIS who left Chowan Co. & removed to Barbour Co., AL in the early 1830's, where his daughter Emeline married Needham Lee, Jr., Nov. 1835. Emeline had a sister (Elizabeth?) who married a King who was also out of the Chowan Co., NC Kings who'd apparently co-migrated into Barbour Co., AL.
