He lived in Dobbs County at Tower Hill, his 850 acre plantation near Stringer's Ferry and owned land is Craven, Johnston, Dobbs and Anson Counties. He and Dr Francis STRINGER, his neighbor were members of the General Assembly. His daughter Mary was married to Richard Caswell, Governor of NC. His son Francis MACKILWEAN b.1724 d.1774 was married to Elizabeth STRINGER d. ca.1760. Any information about MACKILWEAN OR STRINGER will be appreciated. James MACKILWEAN is my 5th Great Grandfather.
