Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/NC/Chowan/900 Surname: ------------------------- Most settlers entering Chowan Precinct that early came from the southeastern-most counties/parishes of Virginia, particularly Nansemond and Isle of Wight Counties. Nansemond was a burned county, and difficult to research. Isle of Wight has had right many records published thru the years, including the Wm. & Mary Quarterly. Neither county exists now--they were absorbed into the newer City of Suffolk, which covers a large area of SE Virginia.
