    2. I'M NOT SHOUTING, FOLKS. JUST NEARSIGHTED, FARSIGHTED & MIDDLESIGHTED. JACOB, I'VE HAD HOUSEGUESTS FOR A WEEK AND IN PROCESS OF CLEANING UP SINCE THEY'VE GONE. I'M INTERESTED IN ALL THE LUTEN FAMILY THERE IN CHOWAN, BUT ESPECIALLY THE ELDER THOMAS LUTEN AND HIS SON, THOMAS LUTEN, AS THEY ARE SOMEHOW CONNECTED TO MY JOHN LEWIS & LUTEN LEWIS LINE IN THE AREA. THAT'S WHAT I SEEK TO EXPAND AND DEEPEN. PROBLEM RIGHT NOW IS GETTING OUT ALL THE DATA I HAVE AND LOOKING IT OVER, BECAUSE I'M SORT OF PRESSED ON ALL SIDES FOR TIME - THINGS CONNECTED WITH FAMILY BUSINESS. I KNOW THAT I CANNOT ADD TO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. EVERYTHING I'VE DONE ON THE LUTENS HAS TO DO WITH THEIR VERY EARLIEST CONNECTIONS IN THE CHOWAN AREA. ARE YOU THE INQUIRER THAT I RECOMMENDED READ THIS REFERENCE (BELOW)? EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT THE ONE, YOU AND EVERYONE DOING LUTEN RESEARCH SHOULD GET THIS AT THE LIBRARY AND READ IT: THE NC GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY JOURNAL VOL XXVI, NO. 4, NOV. 2000 P. 376 - 392 "MADAM ESTHER POLLOCK OF KENT CO., MD, AND CHOWAN CO., N.C., AND THE LUTENS," by John Anderson Brayton I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERYONE WORKING IN THE CHOWAN-GATES AREA OF N.C., BECAUSE THE ARTICLE TOUCHES ON SO MANY LINES. HOPE IT HELPS EVERYONE. KAY G. KLWRAGEG@aol.com

    3. Hi: A query has come in that I'm forwarding to the entire list. If you can help, that would be great! I am the CC for Hyde County. I am doing research for my new web site on the Algonkians of Coastal Carolina, at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~jmack/algonqin/algonqin.htm Are you knowledgeable, or know someone who is, on the early deeds or grants in Chowan County between the Native American inhabitants and early White settlers? If not, if would you please place this on your Query Page and post it to your Chowan County Mailing List, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. I am trying to find various land grants issued to early White settlers or deeds between the Native American residents and the early White settlers. For instance, I have found that on 24 Sept 1660 Nathaniel Batts purchased from Kiscutanewh, King of the Yeopim Indians, all the land on the west bank of the Pasquotank River from its mouth to the head of New Begin Creek. Batts also held land in Chowan Precinct on which he lived for a time [Salmon Creek ares]. Would you happen to have copies of any early deeds / grants concerning the Chowan, Yeopim or other Native Americans lands in northeastern North Carolina? If so, I would appreciate receiving a copy of such documents. Your assistance is appreciated.
