If you are looking for a source to identify the Payne's who were enrolled members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, they are all listed in a book titled "1924 Baker Roll, The Final Roll of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians of North Carolina" by, Bob Blankenship. This includes the birth dates, degree of Indian blood, residence by city and state, and relation to the applicant. I purchased this book at Talking Leaves Book Store in Cherokee, North Carolina. There are 42 Payne's listed. I have the book by Tony McClure and it is a reference book to other publications - not a resource for individual ancestors.
