Hi Jerry, Didn't know if you got my "list" of folk. Just checking to make sure--Brown, Boring, Ramsey, Pack and Shearer. I can tell you specific names if you didn't get my last message. Mitzi
Came in late (subscriber) on these lookups I'm reading about--apparently someone has a book of Cherokee County resident ancestors. Would thank you in advance for checking for Archibald Fair and providing any info. He moved to Cherokee from Burke circa 1840, showing up first in that year's census as "Archibal Fir," then as "Archibald Farr" in 1850 and finally "Archibel Fair" in 1860. His wife was Hally (or Holly) and had about 8 children. They lived in the Hot House District.

This may or may not help, but there are a number of Weeks in neighboring Fannin County, Ga. Their web site has census information for 1860 and 1870 that includes Weeks. A number of these family crossed back and forth the tri-county area of Polk Co, Tn, Fannin Co, Ga and Cherokee Co, NC. - Joan Duvall Gdinkydau@aol.com wrote: > In a message dated 9/1/99 10:22:28 AM Eastern Daylight Time, > SForte6905@aol.com writes: > > << > Reply-To: NCCHEROK-L@rootsweb.com >> > > Suzanne; > I could find nothing on DePriests But did find a little on WEEKS as > follows > 1860 Census; > 1. Does anyone have the 1870 or 1880 Cherokee County Census? If so could I get a look-up on SEGRAVES, SEAGRAVES, or SEEGRAVES. I believe they lived near Murphy. Any leads appreciated. Thanks, Virginia
As with all data, the information from the Cherokee County Heritage books should be used as leads and checked out. I have found some information that is incorrect due to faulty memories, etc. or whatever. Lynda
Thats the truth. Kaye Presley
Cathy; It is in Vol # 2. I don't know if it has been published separately or not. Let me know if I can help you. Vol#2 has the census for 1840,1850, and 1860. JERRY

Jim Harris wrote to Glenna, and sent along to the list: >Nice to hear from you. Elizabeth Harris is responsible for NCgensweb.com. (I >think I got the web address spelled right). Just to clarify this a bit, in case anyone needs to know. I am state coordinator for the NCGenWeb project (URL in my signature below). I don't have any ancestors in Cherokee County, but have been managing this list since sometime last spring when the county page changed hands. I am however a North Carolina native with very deep roots, mostly in the Winston-Salem area. HARRIS is my married name, and that's the family that is from Pennsylvania. Of course, the person who submitted the data had some of it incorrect. The Old Martin's Creek Cemetery was in Martin's Creek and not Unaka. Now for a while, they lived in Unaka and Daniel was the minister at the old Methodist Church which no longer exists. Also, Daniel's middle name was McKenzie. He was named after his grandmother, Barbara McKenzie Matheson daughter of Kenneth and Christian Gordon McKenzie from Iredell County, NC Best regards, J. Kurt Matheson
Hi Jerry, If you have a chance, could you see if there are any Weeks or DePriests in the Cherokee County Heritage Book. Thanks Suzanne
I received this on another list, I assume it is legitimate. I went to the site and there are no ads or solicitations. Scott >>Hello Everyone, I just wanted to let you know that The Gravesite Project site is FINALLY open! The link is: http://www.piedmontsoftware.com/graves/ We are still adding photos to the site as well as some other graphics so please ignore the bare pages after the introductory page. We will also be adding some minor necessities over the next few days, but since the database is now ready to use we wanted to let everyone have access to it. Please spread the word about the site so that more photos are contributed---and if you notice any errors please bring that to our attention so that we can quickly get them corrected. I hope that you all enjoy it and thanks again for all of your help with the photos! :o)
Glenna, Nice to hear from you. Elizabeth Harris is responsible for NCgensweb.com. (I think I got the web address spelled right). She shows up on the NCCherokee web site a lot. I thought that I would check with her to see about her heritage. She is from Pennsylvania, however. Hope you are doing well. We are looking at a get together this weekend at my brother's house in Charlotte. Jim Harris
Bill, We had a Tom Harris but he was born during the 1890's but not around 1814. My family came from James Henry Harris born March 7, 1818 in Iredell County, NC. The family moved to Cherokee county a few years later. Are you related to the Harris's in the Flax Creek cemetery ? Those are my relatives. On another note, my mother is related to the Allens in Cherokee county, NC. Is your Allen name from that area ? Jim Harris
