I am looking for information on Harriett Bishop (born 1/10/1884 Murphy, NC; died 5/3/1956 Murphy, NC). She never married. Her father was listed as Cal Bishop and her mother as Hattie Hatley. The information on her death certificate was provided by Clifton Bishop of Murphy, NC. Any information would be appreciated. Paul Carter
To all my friends and cousins -- and especially McDonald relatives, I've created a new website called "Valley River Relatives." Major families include alphabetically Adams, Arrowood, Blair, Blythe, Davis, Dockery, Graves, Hampton, McDonald, McKeehan, Nipper, Palmer, Parker, Patterson, Sylvester, Tucker, Wall/s, and Welch and related lines. There is a related surname index which will grow as new families are typed into links. The focus is on the multitudes of descendants from Jonathan and Annie Blythe, early pioneers in Valley River, Cherokee CO, NC. The URL is http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~snipper This is my way of saying happy new year to everyone! Enjoy and return because I've only just begun! Sandra
Just this week, I've added four photos and a few new links on my website called "Kinfolks in the Knobs." The URL is http://www.genweb.net/kinfolksintheknobs Most of these folks are from Monroe and McMinn COS, TN. Enjoy! Sandra Ratledge
As a new member to this list, I am requesting information concerning Neuel Tate, the son of Joe T. Tate and Emma Rush Tate. Neuel Tate would have been born around 1894 or 1895, perhaps in Tennessee, even though a number of his siblings were born in Cherokee County. Those siblings include: Annie, Arie Mae, Ed and Fred (twins), Emma Joe, Frank, Homer, Neal, Ocean, Oma, and William M. Neuel lived for a time, as an adult, in Harlan County, Kentucky. Also, I would like to know the name of his first wife and where she came from. Any help would be appreciated. Betty Taylor ETAYLOR@prodigy.net

Dear Brian, I noticed on your e-mail to the NCCHEROK list that some of your family names encluded Gilreath. Could you tell me alittle about the Gilreaths. My grandfathers sister married a Gilreath and I havent had any luck finding his family. (I guess she would be my great-aunt) she lived in Suches GA. married a Gilreath. His name was J.H. Gilreath. I've been told the J.H. stood for John Henry???? although they called him Wilce. Maybe you would know the Gilreaths of this area? Any help would be great! Hi folks, I went back to Cherokee Co. in September with my mom. It was a first time visit there for both of us. My mom's dad and his father were born in Culberson. Both of them were born on the property next to the Shady Grove Baptist Church. It was deja vu seeing all the names I have run across doing my genealogy. We visited with our Arp relatives who live outside of Murphy and visited Murphy to see the Courthouse and Historical Museum. If you go there be sure and stop to eat at "Shoe Booties Resturant". We sure enjoyed our visit there and hope to get there from Seattle again real soon. We met lots of nice friendly people there. Some of our family names from around Cherokee Co. are: Arp, Ballew, Standridge, Kimsey, Shields, Culberson, Keith, Kisselburg, Anderson, Watson, Gilreath and Hyde. Brian Lord
Peachtree is a wonderful little wide spot in the road. We buried Ron's father there last spring. I've lost track of how many generations of his family have found their final resting place there. One of those places where the population of dead exceeds the living. In fact, they went with a commercial cemetery since the church was already full. First person in either of our families not buried in a family or church cemetery - very weird to us anyway. Residents depend on Murphy for grocieries, postal service and such. But it is getting on towards Clay County. Overall, there is a lot of bleed over between the county families and county/state lines. Georgia is flatter and easier to farm and Tenn has the copper mines with jobs. The County seat is unique in that it is closer to the state capitals of SEVEN states that it is to its own capital of Raleigh. Believe it or not, when Jimmy Carter was Governor, Georgia actually tried to claim part of Cherokee county as their own. But Peachtree isn't completely uncivilized, they do have an excellent school and churches. For those of you who have never been home to Cherokee County, I hope you have the chance to visit someday. Beautiful place. Joyce S wrote: > > Not sure if that would be correct or not, but I do know > where Peachtree is. Many thanks to everyone who responded to my request for a Kimsey phone book look-up. Thanks to the list, I've actually located a few stray Kimseys still in Cherokee County. Now, I just hope the know something about genealogy, and are willing to share! Regards and thanks again -- Judy

Not sure if that would be correct or not, but I do know where Peachtree is. My great grand mother is buried there and it is not far from Murphy. I thought I had a phone book from that area, but can't seem to find it, sorry! There are no Kimseys listed in the local telephone directory as residents of Cherokee Co. Peachtree is a community and does not have a post office. People who live in Peachtree have a Murphy mailing address. The netscape search will go by last name only, though it doesn't seem to recognize Peachtree as a major metropolitan center and you have to punch in Murphy instead. I think your problem may just be a shortage of Kimseys. But if you search under the last name Kimsey in Hiawassee Georgia, there are oodles of them. BaggyGenes wrote: > > Many thanks, Diane. First an all purpose reminder. PIs and criminals often use genie lists to try to act friendly and get phone numbers of people they are looking for. Also there are some nuts out there. Personally I have an internet stalker and would be in trouble if anyone gave him my number. Moral of the story, you shouldn't give out other people's numbers over the net. If you know the person who is being looked for, ask them if it is okay first. But in this case, you will find the information is already on the internet http://home.netscape.com/netcenter/whitepages.html You can get anyone's number in america - as long as its listed. Helllpp!! Does anyone on the list actually live in Cherokee Co.? I understand that there are still a few Kimseys left there (the Peachtree community, I believe) and I'd like to get in touch with them. If someone has access to a phone book, could you provide names and numbers?? I don't think there should be too many. Thanks!! Judy
