    1. [NCCHEROK] BUCE, STANDRIDGE, STYLES, ROBERTS
    2. Carol Ann Tindell
    3. Hi Lillian, I seem to have ties to the STANDRIDGEs of Cherokee Co., NC. My Leathy ROBERTS received from the STILES fmaily over 100 acres of land in 1853, paid for by John STANDRIDGE. I posted a deed to the Cherokee Co., NC Deed forum...and if I remember right...it also mentions Wolf Creek. I know where this land was...it was right on the Polk Co., TN line. So far, I have no other leads as to how or why Leathy received this land and what her maiden name was. No other Standridge or Styles researcher seems to have her...so I'm at a dead end BUCE, I've not heard a lot about this family before....there are quite a few BRUCE families in both Cherokee Co., NC & Union Co., GA. Wait...could it have been spelled BUICE?? I have 2 of them presently young & living...but their line goes back into Hayesville, NC via the PENLANDs & the ENGLANDs....& the CRAWFORDs... 1. Re: [NCCHEROK] BUCE, STANDRIDGE, STYLES, ROBERTS
    2. Hi Carol Ann - All the census records and court records spell the name either Buce or Buse. William Buce died in NC. His son William R died in Ok. and one of the sons of William R and his descendents spell it as Buse, while another son, Charles Marion, who is my husband's line spelled it Buce. I don't know if Elizabeth Standridge is a connection, but I'm checking out every thing I can. Thank you. Lillian

    1. [NCCHEROK] Buce Family
    2. This is my first posting so hope I don't make too many boo-boo's. I am looking for any info on Williamn Buce 1798/1800 born in SC (possibly NC) and his spouse Pernina Samson 1798/1800 born in Sampson Cty, NC. On the 1850 Cherokee Cty census three children are listed - Elizabeth 17, Mahaly 13 and William R. 10. On the 1860 census Mahaly is listed as Mahaly Burns with a 1 year old Henry. William R and Mahaly are listed as being born in Haywood Cty. Next to the Buce listing is W R and Elizabeth Standridge 26, born in Haywood Cty so I wonder if this could be Elizabeth Buce. In 1853 William acquired 100 acres on Persimmon Creek and in 1856 100 acres on Shoal Creek. The 1870 census listes the PO as Wolf Creek, Hothouse TWP. The 1880 census has William living with his son William R at the same place. So William died from 1880 on and Pernina died between 1870 and 1880. I wonder if anyone might have information on the cemeteries in the area or ANY INFO. I have been researching this family for several years but haven't been able to go back any further. Thank you very much. Lillian Buce

    1. Re: [NCCHEROK] New kid to the list.
    2. Hi Frankie, I answered your post and someone else did too, I don't know which one you lost, but I will answer it again. I told you about a James L. Jordan, 1857-1924, who married Ella Postell, 1882-1937. Their son, Mac Jordan, married Vinnie L., she died giving birth to twins, one of which, lived, they had other children also, before the birth of the twins. Vinnie was a Woody, my daddy, Thomas James Woody's sister. Elisha Woody and Mary Elaine Stover was their parents, Tobias Woody, b. Feb. 11, 1805 d. Aug. 8, 1897, and Lourany Lunsford, born 1846 died 1915, was Elisha's parents. There are still many Jordans living in Cherokee Co. NC. I had a lot of Jordan cousins growing up in Topton and Andrews, (Cherokee Co. NC.). Thanks, Carolyn M. Woody-Fuller

The party that you mentioned in your reply may have been a son or Grandson to one of my names mentioned? I will keep you posted of my findings of James and Willis if you would like?
