    3. Cat: I have the 1850-1870 Cherokee co. NC census info on all the Stiles. Here is what is listed for Wm. L. and Telitha Stiles 1850 # 241--William Stiles (25), Telitha (19), Benjamin (2), John ( 6 mos.), Clara A. Sutton (16). 1860 # 312--William Stiles (35), Telitha (29), Benj. (13), John (11), Rufus (6), Wm. (4), Mary (1), Nancy (1) 1870 #188-Talitha Styles NC (38), John (19), Rufus (18), William (15), Emmaline (11), Julias (8), ** all born NC. On the 1870 they were listed as living in Shoal Creek. Diane Ramsey Miller has lots of wonderful information about William and Telitha. I think her address is golden@flex.net but not sure. Cat, I wonder if this is the lady you have been looking for. I didn't even think about Telitha. Could it be the lady? I hope so. Hope this helps. 2. Elizabeth Harris
    3. Would anyone on this list be interested in taking over from me as list manager? It's not hard to do, but does require a modest time commitment, and it's best if the manager is able to monitor messages daily, just in case discussion strays off-topic or people have problems that need attention. Someone who has managed other rootsweb lists and knows the ropes already would be ideal. If you're interested, write me privately: Elizabeth Harris state coordinator, NCGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/

    3. CAT, people living on that side of Polk (Ducktown, Copperhill, Turtletown--near Murphy) could record deeds, etc., at the courthouse in Murphy, since it was easier to get to Murphy than Benton. That is one of the few areas in the country that it was (is) allowed. So, the property was most probably in Polk, especially since she filed for damage in TN. 3. Thanks Cathy, I don't think the ages work...but I'll hang on to this....thanks!!! I do have a separate FTW file of STANDRIDGES that I started collecting last summer....which I believe includes the line down in Lumpkin Co., GA....and no one has a Leathy......but I'll keep on looking.....I plan to go back to Murphy courthouse and look for other documents that would give a reason for this deed. It is odd that this deed in 1856 [..I may have said 1853 before....but it's actually 1856] only included 2 of her existing 6 children....why not the other 4??? I found this intriguing at the time I unearthed this deed...but didn't have time to pursue it last trip to Murphy.... Leathy ROBERTS filed a claim in Polk Co, TN for damage to property during Civil War.[TN State Archives records].......what does this mean???? 3. Hi Lillian, There may be nothing to this, but I hope there is. In the Haywood county census for 1840 there is a William Buice with family members about the write age (acounting for the 10 year time difference) for the William Buce listed in the 1850 Cherokee co. Do you think your Buce migrated from Haywood to Cherokee county? The reason I am asking this is because I am looking for my g-g-g-grandfather, Charles Evander Buce who was born in NC about 1826. His tombstone in Siloam Springs, AR, said he was born in Cherokee county, but Cherokee county had not been formed at that time. My first direct reference of Charles was in the 1850 AR census, where he, his wife and month old child, were living with another family Peter Maltba. All the adults were from N.C. I have often thought that Charles was the first male child of William and Pernina. The William Buice in Haywood county had a male child about the right age. Any thoughts? 3. Do you have a Mary Roberts,Her father was a full blood (Cherokee Indian Chief ) Chief Dale, whom led a clan of the Cherokee Nation in West Virginia. They fled to the mountains to elude forced removal. Mary was one of the younger of many children,Chief Dale had. Mary married a Mr. ? Roberts, one missing link of ours. They had 3 children. Martha, Rhonda & Celia. Martha Roberts married James Dickson Witt, Dec.1876 of Lee Co.,Virginia.She was born Jan.13,1861-Died July 7,1943.At some point they relocated to Oklahoma. They had 12 chilren.Octavia their 3rd daughter was my g-g-grandmother.I ecspecially need the last name of Mary before she married Mr. Roberts. Also anything of a Mr. Roberts such as dates, first name, etc., that you may have that fits this family. If you have any info on these people it would really be appreciated. This is our missing link to claim our ancestry. Please forward this message to anyone you think may be of help. Thanks so much for your for your time.Cathey ----- Original Message ----- From: <TANUKIE@aol.com> To: <NCCHEROK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 27, 2000 5:55 PM Subject: Re: [NCCHEROK] BUCE, STANDRIDGE, STYLES, ROBERTS > I have two sets of Roberts My grandfather was a Roberts and my grandmother > was a Roberts before she married a Roberts. 3. Thanks Cathy, I may be grasping at straws...but Leathy ROBERTS & her children, Elijah & Maranda, received this land in Cherokee Co., NC paid for by John STANDRIDGE. My first inclination is that she was a STANDRIDGE..married first to a STILES...later a ROBERTS/ROBBARDS. She & the ROBERTS children are on the 1870-1880 Polk Co., TN census.......so maybe if I stretch it...she was Letitia Jane "Leathy" ..... Elijah ROBERTS was my great-grandfather who lived his adult life in Isabella, Polk Co. I have a copy of his death certificate...but his 2nd wife Mrs. D.M. "Salah" ROBERTS a/k/a Daisey, nee BEAVER{S} didn't fill in anything...If she weren't already dead, I'd murdicate her myself....Elijah is buried at Ducktown Cem. with his 1st wife, Sarah Jane BROOKS, who died 1903. All of these ROBERTS, BROOKS, STANDRIDGEs, etc. are in both counties.....any further help will be greatly, greatly appreciated!!!!!! <BG> I'll be up there for 10 days doing further research next month...I'll see what other deeds/wills I can come up with.... Thanks for listening, CAT Cathy Hall wrote: > I know nothing more about her, but there was a Jane Standridge on the 1840 > Polk Co. TN census.
