For that reason, we always welcome recollections, photos and stories of Conover and the area around us. I thank Don Barker for his many wonderful historic photos of "Olde Canova," most of which are on display, either at the Conover City Hall lobby, on display at the Catawba County Library in Newton or on the web. His personal page can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccconov/dbarker.htm For the folks who have an attachment to Conover, the Conover page has been the best kept secret on the Internet. It will continue to grow as long as folks care. Submissions and suggestions are eagerly sought. See: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccconov/ The Conover page was the first City Project of the USGenWeb Project (http://www.usgenweb.org/). I have had a really warm reception from folks who leave Guest Book messages. Don answers them while I attend to web duties. Maiden residents and those who seek information about this historic town have a marvelous resource. Our primo city/town Project is that of Maiden, NC http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccmaide/ Robin Barger is the host and has transcribed cemeteries, and a whole lot more. She is a really super volunteer and has a wonderful page. That's who we are! Everyone in the USGenWeb is a volunteer. We believe in FREE GENEALOGY and we practice what we preach. If enough people are interested, I'll be happy to start a Conover (and/or Maiden) discussion list. This would allow folks to share information about the Railroad "Wye, past Oyama" where the trains changed directions. --Derick S. Hartshorn www.Hartshorn.us
