The Heffners wee in Lincoln and Catawba Co's NC--The Moose family were originally Mussgung. About the time of the Rev War, Germany sent Hessian soldiers to aid the Briatish--Pay was 25 cents a day--. To distinguish themselves from these Hessian soldiers, the Mussgung's became Moose. There were originallly 4 brothers who emigrated to the US and settled first in PA. They eventually ended up in Catawba and Carrabus Co's. The name Moose in Indian is "Twig eater". My line is from Anthony b in l774. Anthony md Mary Heffner, b c l779 and died in the l850's. Anthony di near Taylorville, NC in l856. They had l4 children. Anthony is the son of George Moose.
