My gr-grandfather, Green Hull (later known as Henry) was an orphan and a bound boy. He first appeared in the 1870 census as living with Mary and Theodore Ramsaur (Mr. Ramsaur's name was misspelled in that census). At the time, Green Hull is simply shown as being "at home" and no relationship is indicated (in that particular census). He was 8 years old. Ten years later, we find Green Hull at age 17 living with the Calvin Canipe family as a servant working as a laborer on his farm. In my research, I came across a transcript of the tombstones in the Ramsaur Cemetery in Lincoln County. Mary is listed as Mary Canipe Ramsaur, born April 26, 1845, died July 5, 1919, wife of Theodore J. Ramsaur. You can find this transcript at http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/lincoln/cemeteries/ramsaur.txt I'm assuming that Mary is Calvin's sister, although the age doesn't match from census to census. You'll also find more discussion of the Canipe family on the Lincoln (county) board. I hope this helps. If you should come across any information on Green Hull, please let me know. I have a feeling I'm going to have to make a trip to Raleigh to research my gr-grandfather's indenture so that I can find out how he came to be with the Canipe family. I'm searching for the names of his parents. Claudia McCants
