Surnames: ROBINSON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SSB.2ACE/2200 Message Board Post: Hi, I'm trying to find my Grandfather ROBINSON and his ancestors. The only information I have on him is limited. His name was Charles Olan ROBINSON. According to the information that I have on my father's birth certificate (for Charles Olan ROBINSON, Jr.), Charles Olan ROBINSON was born about 1903, somewhere in North Carolina. He was living in Roane County, TN, at least by 1925, when he met and married my Grandmother, Bonnie Pauline DEVANEY. I'm afraid that I do not know his exact date of birth or death, nor his parents' names, nor whether he had any siblings. However, Charles Olan is a rather unusual combination. Can anyone help me? Thanks.
Paul Williams recently passed away in Maiden, NC. As I read his obituary I came across the name Mary W. Cooke as being a deceased sister. I believe Mary was the daughter in law of my great aunt Tedy (Teddie) Piercy Cooke . Can anyone tell me which of Tedy's sons Mary was married to? I have the following sons; Marvin, John, James, Roy and David. Thanks for helping me fill in another blank. Sincerely, Cynthia Bolick Gilbert
There are two pictures of Frederick's Hoke's home and one picture of the Rock Barn on pages 342 & 343 in "The HOKE Book" by Jean A. Berlekamp and Hope L. McConnell. These pictures were made by Margaret Dellinger in June 1979. The book was published in 1980. This same house is pictured on page 158 of "CATAWBA COUNTY - an architectural history" published by the Catawba County Historical Association in 1991. This article states that the house was probably built by Daniel Roseman after the Civil War. The article on page 157 has a good description of the Rock Barn but no picture. It was probably built about 1822. The David R. Hoke and Pierce P. Hoke property (about 51 acres) was sold to W.R. Fry in 1924 and is now part of Rock Barn Golf Course. It was probably part of the original plantation. Dear list subscribers, Since 1996, I have striven to make Catawba County, NC genealogy freely available on the Internet. I have tried to expand these resources and make them available to anyone with access to a computer, at home or at a public library. Since then, I have adopted Burke County, NC and have applied the same principle. Surname and family pages have put many researchers in touch with one another and have supplied the sought-for answers. The original purpose of the Internet was to allow communication between individuals with common interests. I have exploited this resource with SURNAME pages, both on the Burke http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncburke/surname-reg.htm and Catawba County http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccatawb/surnames.htm NCGenWeb pages. These pages have allowed researchers to contact one another. Thus far, it has proven to be an unqualified success. While I must maintain the surname pages manually, I continue to urge researchers to list their surnames and to contact others with common interests. I have recently modified the pages to include a common subject line. When you submit e-mail messages, your surname interest will be displayed on the subject line. If you have any corrections or suggestions regarding the Burke or Catawba County pages, please let me know how I might improve these resources. Derick S. Hartshorn Catawba/Burke County, NCGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccatawb/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncburke/

She was born in 1863 in Catawba, NC. I've located her name in 1870 census records. In 1887 Lillie gave birth to a daughter, Odessa, who was clearly the product of a liason with a white male. Family lore holds that Lillie's partner was a member of the family on whose land she had been raised. This was the same Cansler family that owned Lillie's parents and siblings prior to the end of slavery. There are a lot of Canslers who owned slaves in Catawba during the early to mid 1800s and I need any guidance in how to narrow the scope of the inquiry. Thanks.
