Derick, Thanks for the suggestion. Though time consuming, even with my new road runner, I've been able to piece together how many children Michael Bolick may have had in 1840. A woman old enough to be his wife is listed but drat, the 1840 census doesn't name her. With all the kids they had you'd think the poor woman would get some credit. What was also interesting were the people who lived around him, names I see everyday in my research. I appreciate your kind help. Cynthia

You need to take the post and prior census' (1830 Lincoln and 1850 Catawba) and compare names. For instance, the William Fulbright (1840 census, pg 36, line 2nd from last) is the same as the William Fulbright (1850 census, pg 281, line 14, 245/245). Other examples are found in family and neighborhood groupings. Make notes as to age of children and family composition in successive decades. I know it's a job but it sure would be nice if someone could reconstruct the 1840 census (page 37). --Derick

Can any one lend a hand with this? On page 37, M704, roll 364 of the Upper Regiment of the Lincoln County Census, taken by Daniel Seagle only the names of the persons being counted are written, none of the numbers of people in the age groups. I've checked Ancestry and Heritage Quest, both are blank. In tiny print on the Ancestry page there is a note that reads "omitted in copying" Does anyone know where I can get the family information? Example, Males under 5, 1 15-20, 2? Thanks so much, Cynthia

Charles Augustus was the son of William Monroe Troutman, born 5/2/ 1809. Married 11/11/1830 to Salome "Sally" Elizabeth Stirewalt. The genealogy traces down from a Johann Adam Trautmann, who appears to be the emigrant from Germany, the name was Anglized to Troutman, where, if I remember correctly, it appears in the builders/founders of the Organ Lutheran Church, an offshoot of Old St. John's near Concord, NC. I'll check my records on the Organ church
