    1. Lincoln County Cemeteries
    2. Derick Hartshorn
    3. Dear Lincoln friends, One of the most useful tools for the genealogist, aside from primary records, is a cemetery register. Often, the best key to tracing ancestors is a cemetery survey, particularly if the graves are listed row by row. I felt that a cemetery page would be of immediate use to Lincoln County researchers, so, as of today, one has been posted: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nclincol/cemeteries.htm I ask your patience as I fine tune it. I would like to direct your attention to a photo-documentary page on the Ramsour-Reinhardt (or Reinhardt-Ramsour) cemetery. I had this on the Catawba County site until I could properly place it on the Lincon page. This page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nclincol/cemeteries/Reinhardt-RamsourCem.htm contains photos of the dedication ceremony as well as photos of every grave in the cemetery. This page is also referenced from the Lincoln County Historical Association page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nclincol/LCHA.htm I hope to have other photos of cemeteries as they become available. I want to thank Bill Floyd and Terry Waldrop for their tireless work in transcribing the many Western North Carolina cemeteries. Also, I want to thank the many others who participated in cemetery surveys. I have tried to acknowledge each and every one of them by name on the cemetery page. I will be happy to post and all submitted cemetery-related information on this page, particularly the un-surveyed cemeteries. In addition to supplying me with material, please feel free to inject suggestions and criticisms. Derick S. Hartshorn Lincoln NCGenWeb page host

    1. Lincoln County NCGenWeb page--facelift
    2. Derick Hartshorn
    3. Dear Lincoln County researchers, I am the NCGenWeb Coordinator for Burke and Catawba Counties and list administrator for the Lincoln County-RootsWeb List (and others). I get a great deal of the material that seems pertains to Lincoln County. For that reason, I have asked the current Lincoln County coordinator, Paul Buckley, if I might give him a hand. This will allow me to place some new items on the Lincoln County page that I have been holding for just such an opportunity. At the same time, I will try to make the information easy to find. New formats may appear in the future as well as new resources. I depend on contributions of material and images, family histories, transcribed documents, links, etc. from researchers out there. Paul is covered up with state USGENWEB activities as well as his many other pages and responsibilities. The current page is http://www.rootsweb.com/~nclincol/nclincoln.htm and will remain in place until folks have had ample an ample opportunity to "test drive" the new page at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nclincol/index.htm. Please write me back if you have any material you care to share. Please also let me know of the page visability, ease of use and display resolution, or any other comments. Derick S. Hartshorn

    3. Tim, Indeed, we did have a wonderful Reunion on Sunday (today)! The dedication ceremony is recorded at: http://www.catawbascv.org/JHunsucker-ded.htm Please visit our site at: http://www.catawbascv.org/index.htm for recent updates. I am so sorry you weren't able to attend. We had a very memorable time. The images many other Confederate Catawba County Soldiers graves may be found at: http://www.catawbascv.org/Stones.htm Their stories and last resting places may be found at: http://www.catawbascv.org/Soldiers.htm Thanks very much for your information. Every little bit helps. I show: MILLER, ABEL A. , Private, Co H, 28th Regiment, NC Troops. - Born in Catawba County and enlisted at Camp Vance on Febuary 24, 1864, for the war. Died at Richmond, Virginia, or at Lynchburg, Virginia, May 2-6, 1864, of "c[hronic] bronchitis." [NC Troops-8:204] He was married to Jemima L. Bolch, (my wife's 2nd cousin) by Ephraim Yount, J.P. on 16 Mar 1847, in Catawba County. You probably already have this information. (My wife is Ephraim Yount's, 3rd great grandfather). If you would like to see Abel Miller memorialized with a Confederate gravestone, please let me know. His family is buried at St. Stephen's ELCA Church, Springs Road, Hickory, NC He is currently buried in an unknown grave, near Richmond, and he certainly deserves to be recognized back home, here in Catawba County. The goal of the SCV is to provide assistance in memorializing Confederate veterans with a final closure. It is our goal to unite folks with their valiant ancestors and facilitate the memorialization of their ancestor. If you have an annual or semi-annual family reunion, this would be an excellent time to erect a memorial to your Confederate ancestor. If that is the case, please let me know and I will be happy to help facilitate the arrangements and help you in any way I am able. Your material is definitely "keeper" material. Thanks so much for keeping me on your list of friends. You are certainly one of mine. If I can ever help with Catawba County records, please let me know. Remember, there is absolutely no charge! I am a volunteer and the Camp is eager to help recognize you ancestor. --Derick S.
