One married a Wilkinson, which is one line I am doing. I did look up John A. Lockman & Rachael in the 1860 census and found in then Lincoln County Census: They had 3 children at that time. Mary J. Lockman W/F age 4 Landy W. Lockman W/M age 2 Julian Lockman W/F age 4 months.(may have been spelled wrong.? Could not find them in 1870, but Rachael H. Lockman and a son James age 18 were listed in 1880. She was a widow, and Janes was still single. I'm sure with a little harder looking she could be found in 1870. Good luck!
I'm updating my notes on my great great grandfather Henry Jaconias Bolick and now have new questions; 1. When did his wife Rhoda Emmiline Bowman Bolick die? She is on 1910 census living with her daughter and son in law Cora and Henry Sigmon with Jaconias. She isn't on the 1920 census. 2. Does anyone have an obit for her? 3. Does anyone know if Rhoda and Jaconias attended church and if so which one? 4. I have 6 children for Rhoda and Jaconias: William L. (my great grandfather), Alice, Cora, Anna, Silas and George. My information comes from census records. Rhoda is listed as having 6 children with 4 living on the 1900 census. Well, that leaves out either William or Alice since Cora, George and Silas are listed as living with their parents Anna has already died. This may just be an error. 5. Silas is listed as Silas Bolick on the 1900 census as opposed to the other children being listed with just their first name. Silas is new to me but a couple of cousins (distant) have told me he existed and even visited the family after a fight at Balls Creek Camp Meeting. I can't find him on the 1910 census but there is a Silas with the right age on the 1920 Lincoln County census. Whatever became of him? If this is the right Silas he had a daughter named Viola. 6. Cora Ann Bolick Sigmon: when did she die? She is buried at St. Matthews Church of Christ outside of Maiden. 7. Lastly, does anyone have obituaries of any of the above people or Bible entries and are there pictures of Rhoda, Cora, Silas? I have pictures of Jaconias, Alice and George. Thanks for any information anyone can share. Let me know if I can lend a hand in your research. Sincerely, Cynthia Bolick Gilbert
Dear researchers, For those who have an interest in the SETZER/SETSER family genealogy, John L. Setzer, Sr. has made his book available. This remarkable effort comes after 35 years of intensive research. It is presented in easy-to-read fashion, without having to flip through pages to find notes and sources. The index is really unique, making name identification and location quite simple. Having had the opportunity to inspect it, I can highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in this fascinating and prolific family. Dear Listers, Allow me to bring your attention, a new page depicting the Old Shuford cemetery and forthcoming attempts to restore this magnificent symbol of years past. A movement is underway to not only clear and clean the cemetery, but to create a road to the site and provide for periodic maintenance. Some time ago I received a listing of Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Denver, Lincoln County, NC. The listing was done by a Mr.Terry Waldrop of the Gaston County Genealogical Society in 1990 and I do not remember who I got it from. For a long long time I hoped for some way to make it available to all the other Lincoln and Catawaba County, North Carolina researchers I had come in contact with over the years. As it turned out, all I had to do is ask. I contacted Mr William (Bill) Floyd who has published many cemetery listings online and he assured me he would be publish my transcription given the proper copyright premission. I then contacted Mr. Waldrop and he graciously granted that permission. I finally finished transcribing it along with a shade of embellishment from my own personal records and it was published by Bill Floyd on January 01, 2006 at : http://www.rfci.net/wdfloyd/bethellc.html I encourage you to have a look at this document. Especially if your roots are in Lincoln or Catawba County and any of the names you are researching include: Barkley, Brotherton, Caldwell, Dellinger, Gabriel, Hager, Harwell,Howard, Killian, King, Linebarger, Little, Lowe, Munday-Mundy, McCaul,Proctor, Sherrill, Shelton, Sigmon, Smith, Thompson, or Wagoner. Good luck with yer diggin' Jamie
