Can anyone here do a cemetery lookup for me in Lincoln Co? I have two entries in my file that I think are really the same man. Thanks, Mike Cobb in TX
Francis Augustus Clinard of Catawba County, born 3/8/1854 and died 5/10/1934, was a bookkeeper for the Hall Brothers store in Hickory. I have read his several letters in the L.N. Clinard collection (his father) and they are very informative. I believe there may be a kinship connection between his line and my line that was in south Georgia during his life time. As a matter of fact, my g-g-grandfather, who was born in NC, was named Jacob Livingston Clinard, and F.A. Clinard's father was named Livingston Nathaneal Clinard. And my g-grandfather was named Jacob Franklin Clinard, and called Frank. I know the Clinard line in south Georgia came from NC in early 1800s. I have found little to connect him to south Georgia, only one thing - a record of F.A. Clinard at the Farnum House (hotel) in Terrell Co, GA (ref. Dawson Journal newspaper) on February 15, 1888. The visit could have been purely a coincidental business related visit, but perhaps not. Any help with making a connection is appreciated. David Clinard Gray, Georgia

Hi Pat, The only naming pattern that I know of is the Scottish naming pattern as I have been doing research on my Scottish line but it seems that it would hold true in other parts of the world also. I have been doing research in Scotland during the 1700's and 1800's. Here it is: 1st daughter: named after the maternal grandmother 2nd daughter: named after the paternal grandmother 3rd daughter: named after the mother 1st son: named after the paternal grandfather 2nd son: named after the maternal grandfather 3rd son: named after the father Hope this helps some Sincerely, Marjorie Fletcher, Salt Lake City, UT Please visit our web site http://home.sprintmail.com/~robtmarj/ [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: July 13, 2000 6:11 PM Subject: [NCCATAWB-L] naming of children >Can someone please tell me the typical naming order of children in the 1800s? >Who was the first son named after? second son? first daughter? etc. etc. etc. > >Thanks. >Pat > > >==== NCCATAWB Mailing List ==== >If you have a WEB site and would like it posted here send email with your site address and a short description to [email protected] > >============================== >Search ALL of RootsWeb's mailing lists in real time. >RootsWeb's Personalized Mailing Lists: >http://pml.rootsweb.com/ > >
