William Hunter paid taxes to Ireland, this it isbelieved he came to America from Ireland. 1787 John Lefever purchased land from Randolph Laurens inSpartanburg, SC. Ordered that a commissionDedimus Potestatum issue to the State of North Carolina, Lincoln County, totake Examination of John Beest in behalf of the plaintiff.” Ie. Mr. Hoover is suing Mr. Lefever, probablyfor debt. The county court has issued a Writ of Attachment, meaning JohnLefever’s personal property will be attached and sold to cover the debt. If sufficient personal property is notlocated, then Lefever’s land can be attached. Mr. Lefever is defending himself. John Best who lives in Lincoln County, NC has been summoned to testifyin behalf of Frederick Hoover. Usuallywitnesses are required to testify in open court; however, extenuatingcircumstances such as illness could prevent a witness from being able to attendcourt. In that case, the Court will approve a dedimus potestatum. This is acourt order issued to an appropriate official – such as a justice of the peacein Lincoln County. – to hear and record the testimony of John Best. The Justice of the Peace then seals histranscript of the testimony and returns it to the Court where it is then readinto the record of the proceedings. 1789 Abraham Lefever and wife Elizabeth of Augusta Co., VAsell land in Lincoln County, North Carolina to John Cressimore with explanationthat “John Lefeber’s will dated Oct 1787 and registered in Berks Co., PAdivided his land in PA but failed to do anything about the land in NorthCarolina.” Abraham, as the eldest son was declared heir-at-law. July 6, 1790 – Isaac Leafever and wife Melinda Lefever, of Burke (or Wilkes) County, Georgia transferred land in Edgefield County, SC to John Talbert. (I have a copy of this deed transfer scanned and on disk. Perhaps someone more skilled at reading old documents could look at it for me? I will email it to you.) 1790 ish. 3. I am a Deal - Stafford and there are many intertwinings through the generations with a Sigmon or two. Since my great grandparents were married by RL Sigmon I thought there might be a chance of learning more about him and a few of the people in the wedding party. My ggparents were one Byers and one Bostion. The attendees at the wedding were Ellen Little, a Mr. White and Elizabeth Bostion. Also, the curiosity with why my great grandparents were married in Catawba and not either Iredell (where he was from) or Alexander County (where she was from.) I have the Deal-Stafford genealogy book (my dad included in it) and I have a few others. This wedding took place in 1887. Solomon's father was Peter Sain, one of several sons of Jacob Sain, born & died in Lincoln Co., his wife being Catherine, maiden surname unknown. Two Sain families settled in NC, the other being Casper Sain and families in Rowan Co., NC. In 1983 a Sain Lady in Arizona said she believed Casper and Jacob were brothjers or cousins. My maternal grandmother told me the Sain name was anglicized after soldiers invoaded the Sain home looking for hoarded flour and sugar, this apparently being in Germany. Most Germans came to Philadelphia via Amst! erdam. I found a Jacob Zin and Casper Zin living next dor to each other in Penn. in the late 1700s. I haven't heard of the surnames listed in your messaage so probably your book wouldn't help me. Solomon Sain went off to the Civil War and was never heard from again, and I find no record of him in CSA records. Probably blown to smithereens. Jim W.
