Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/SSB.2ACE/2156.1.1.1.2 Message Board Post: I followed this thread with interest because I was doing some research on Calvin Canipe (no relation to me as far as I know). My gr-grandfather, Green Hull (later known as Henry) was an orphan and a bound boy. He first appeared in the 1870 census as living with Mary and Theodore Ramsaur (Mr. Ramsaur's name was misspelled in that census). At the time, Green Hull is simply shown as being "at home" and no relationship is indicated (in that particular census). He was 8 years old. Ten years later, we find Green Hull at age 17 living with the Calvin Canipe family as a servant working as a laborer on his farm. In my research, I came across a transcript of the tombstones in the Ramsaur Cemetery in Lincoln County. Mary is listed as Mary Canipe Ramsaur, born April 26, 1845, died July 5, 1919, wife of Theodore J. Ramsaur. You can find this transcript at http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/lincoln/cemeteries/ramsaur.txt I'm assuming that Mary is Calvin's sister, although the age doesn't match from census to census. You'll also find more discussion of the Canipe family on the Lincoln (county) board. I hope this helps. If you should come across any information on Green Hull, please let me know. I have a feeling I'm going to have to make a trip to Raleigh to research my gr-grandfather's indenture so that I can find out how he came to be with the Canipe family. I'm searching for the names of his parents. Claudia McCants
I am helping a friend with her Peter Seitz/Sides/Sights genealogy. She is seeking to locate a bust or statue that was supposed to have been located in Hickory or elsewhere in Catawba Co., NC. I do not have dates for Peter but he was said to have been a Revolutionary War soldier/supporter and lived in Catawba Co., NC. If you know where a bust or statue of this man is located please let me know, we would like to make arrangements to have a digital photo made. Thanks, Teresa

I just found 1845 maps online at www.genealogyatlas.com/1845/ I can now locate the approximate place and see surrounding communities that my ancestors were in Around the 1845 time period. I printed two maps out but they could be slow to load if you have a dial up. There are some deed references as well as the usual census and burial records. I don't have anything on Matthew Wilson and Juliana Arney directly, but John references the "Arney cemetery" in several places so I expect there is some substantial record of this family in the area. I expect that they were all from the Burke and Lincoln county area which, of course, includes Catawba. If you're interested in John's book you can reach him at: John L. P R E S S R E L E A S E Nearly 140 years ago, William Silas Deal, a Synod representative of St. John's Lutheran church, enlisted with the NC Troops during the War Between the States. He enlisted at the age of forty, well past the age of required military service. William S. Deal fought for the Confederacy and was captured at the Battle of Hatcher's Run. He died of disease at Point Lookout prison, seven weeks after the war had ended. His bravery will finally be remembered with a memorial marker at St. John's Lutheran Church cemetery. The dedication ceremony will take place at St. John's Church, north of Conover, on Saturday, October 23rd, 2004 at 2:00 PM. In attendance will be the color guard of the CF Connor, Camp #849, Sons of Confederate Veterans as well as re-enactors from neighboring camps. Ladies from the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) and Order of the Confederate Rose (OCR) will attend with period costumes. Descendants and guests for this observance will be coming from as far away as California and Arkansas to pay their respects. The public is cordially invited to attend this event. The invocation will be given by the Rev. Scott Johnson of St. John's church and a rifle salute will be presented by members of the color guard.
