Wilkerson / Wilkison, Caswell Co, NC The head of this family was Samuel Wilkerson (b. abt. 1700) of Frederick County, Maryland. Samuel became a Quaker in order to marry Dorcas Elemon in abt. 1735. Four of his sons -- Thomas, Francis, William, and John -- fought in the American Revolutionary War. Samuel Wilkerson's daughters were Ann, Catherine, Fanny, Elizabeth, and Susannah. Samuel Wilkerson was granted 150 acres of land on both side of Negres or Negro Creek in Caswell County, North Carolina, on Mar. 23, 1779. He also owned land on the Clinch River in Russell County, Virginia. Samuel Wilkerson's will was probated Oct. 28, 1781, in Caswell County, North Carolina. Marriage records from Greene County, Tennessee, include three instances of the Wilkison surname. Records for Enoch Carter and Susan Wilkison's marriage indicate a marriage bond posted by William Wilkison. William is believed to be the brother of Susan. Greene County issued a marriage license for Henry Gay (or Guy) and Elizabeth Wilkison on Jun. 22 ,1797. Elizabeth Wilkison is believed to be the sister of Susan Wilkison. Enoch Carter supplied the bond for the marriage of Elizabeth to Henry. Any additional information about these persons, or news of other persons researching them, would be greatly apprecited.
