Hello, I am researching the line of MORTON, which according to the 1818 Williamson County, TN tax lists, settled in the Williamson County area until at least 1920. I am trying to identify the parents of "Stephen" Step MORTON, b. circa 1780, possibly in North Carolina or Virginia. Step MORTON married Nancy RICHMOND Jan. 2, 1809, in Caswell County, NC. "Step" MORTON, is listed along with Samuel C. MORTON, Sr., Anderson MORTON, Mary and Meshack MORTON on the 1810 Caswell County, NC census. Then Step and Samuel are listed on the 1820 and 1830 Williamson County, TN census records. Step MORTON, a widower, died about 1836. Below is the list of known children; the 1820 and 1830 census listed 3 more children, their names remain unknown: Mary MORTON - b. c. 1810, m. Moses BEARD or BAIRD, 1831. Nancy MORTON - b. 1822 (listed in the same household with Joseph S. Morton on 1850 Williamson Cty census) Joseph S. MORTON - b. 1824 m. Comfort M. Guinn, 4/1843, Maury Cty, TN, d. aft. 1917 in Brentwood, TN. E. Annis MORTON - b. m. Henry Edgar 1841 Step MORTON - b. 1835 d. 1851. According to Step MORTON's probate records, Nancy, Joseph, Annis and Step Jr. were orphans and placed under guardianship of Moses and Mary MORTON-BEARD. Joseph S. MORTON had two sons, Benjamin Moses Morton and John Wesley Morton. My line is through Benjamin and Bettie J. Glenn-Morton. I would appreciate any help and would be happy to share info!
