Does anyone know if this WILLIAMS ever married a Rebecca PHILLIPS? I have Alonzo Theodore PHILLIPS who married Martha Elizabeth "Lizzie" WINTERS December 14, 1879 Upper Creek Twp, Burke Co. North Carolina. Rumor has it that Alonzo and his mother were victims of abuse and moved with the WINTERS family. Apparently Alonzo took on the maiden name of his mother. When Alonzo and Lizzie married, there was a James WILLIAMS of Burke who is listed as a witness to this marriage. There is a James C WILLIAMS who married Lizzie's sister, Nancy E WINTERS January 13, 1880 Morganton, Burke Co North Carolina but I've not been able to obtain a copy of this marriage record to see if James C WILLIAMS lists his mother as Rebecca to prove or disprove that James C WILLIAMS and Alonzo Theodore PHILLIPS are siblings. There is no mention of Alonzo's father's name on his marriage nor death records. We only know that his dob is May 25, 1855 Union Co North Carolina but cannot obtain any proof of this. Marriage license of Alonzo and Lizzie indicate "son of PHILLIPS and Rebecca Phillips the father now DEAD, the mother LIVING resident of Union Co" ... DEATH CERT NC State Board of Health Death Reg.
