Hi, all, Looking for more information on my John TRAVIS, who appears to have been born about 1770, probably in Pittsylvania Co., VA. He appears to have resided in Caswell, and may have had later Caswell descendants with the same surname. The estate records of Robert BRUCE in Caswell Co., NC (who seems to have been the same Robert BRUCE on the 1782 Tax List of Pittsylvania with a family of 11 white persons?,) show John TRAVIS receiving for David TULLOCH David's portion of the legacy of Robert BRUCE, who died 1791 in Caswell, and his wife, Elizabeth, who was deceased by 1806 in Caswell. The will of John CHILTON, who died 1806 in Caswell, NC named daughters: Polly TRAVIS & Sally TRAVIS. The estate sale records for John CHILTON's estate were attended by two TRAVIS men: John TRAVIS and James TRAVIS. Does anyone have more information on TRAVISes in Caswell? My John TRAVIS was recorded on the 1821 Tax List of Pittsylvania Co, VA with 3 sons and 6 daughters, all born before 1811. John was over 45 years of age on this List. One of John TRAVIS' daughters was Ellender (or Eleanor, Ellen), who married John D. STONE in Pittsylvania in 1822. John STONE's father d. 1811 in Caswell Co., NC; he appears to have Epaphroditus (Epephroditus, etc.) STONE, who apparently died at a young age. (Another son of Epaphroditus, whose wife was Lucy, was Tilman Stone, also recorded in Caswell.) I have not located the will of John TRAVIS---he did not die in Pittsylvania, as far as I can tell (nor did James, that I know of.) I feel sure some of the later Caswell Travises come from John? John TRAVIS may? be connected to William TRAVIS, who was recorded on the 1782 Tax List of Pittsylvania Co., VA with a household of 9 white persons. He may? be connected to a David TRAVIS, who witnessed the will of Thomas PALMER in 1784 in Caswell Co., NC. Does anyone have the will of John TRAVIS? James? David? William? Pam pamstone@digital.net
